Tennis Betting Online:The Davis Cup, the international team event in men’s tennis, is a unique event that always fascinates tennis fans and excites tennis bettors. The largest annual team competition in sport, it pits national sides of tennis players against each other. Playing for national pride undoubtedly fires the players up and the Davis Cup always features hard fought contests.
Spain v France
Spain achieved a heroic 3-2 win over USA in Austin despite the absence of its No. 1 player Rafael Nadal. Feliciano Lopez won the opening match in an epic five-setter against Roddick and David Ferrer became the hero of the tie after securing the victory by winning his two singles rubbers.
Germany had only beat France twice in Davis Cup, with the last time dating back to 1938. This year´s quarterfinal did not change these statistics as France added another victory to increase their head-to-head advantage to 7-2. Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet won the opening singles and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra secured the victory in the doubles rubber.
The “King of Clay” will be playing on his favourite surface and will also have the unconditional support of the Spanish fans in the stands. Nadal´s form prior to the US Open raised some doubts but the world No. 2, despite his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the final, has managed to bring back his competitive instinct.
The French No. 1 is back to his best having reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows. Clay is not his favourite environment but the absence of Gael Monfils makes him the natural leader of the team.
Spain and France have met on seven different occasions in Davis Cup, resulting in five victories for the Spaniards and two for the French.
The last clash took place last year when France whitewashed Spain 5-0 in Clermont-Ferrand in the World Group quarterfinals.
The fact that Rafael Nadal is arguably the best clay court specialist in the history of tennis makes the choice of surface an advantage for the Spaniards. However, neither of the two other Spanish players that are likely to play singles, Ferrer or Verdasco, are really clay court specialists, making the advantage smaller than it could seem.
Serbia v Argentina
Serbia comprehensively won 4-1 against a weakened Swedish side that was missing its No. 1 player Robin Soderling. Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic won their singles matches on the opening day but needed to wait until Sunday to get the third and definitive point when Tipsarevic defeated Michael Ryderstedt in straight sets.
Argentina completed a perfect performance against Kazakhstan at the Parque Roca in Buenos Aires. The South Americans whitewashed their transoceanic rivals 5-0 to secure a place in the semifinals for the second consecutive year. Juan Monaco, Juan Martin del Potro and the doubles pair Chela/Schwank earned the first three points that secured the victory.
Djokovic is having his best ever season by far. The Serb started the year by winning the Australian Open and completing a historic 42-match unbeaten run that was only ended by an inspired Roger Federer at Roland Garros. Then, the 24-year-old went on to win at Wimbledon and take the No. 1 spot for the first time in his career.
The 2009 US Open winner seems to be recovering his best form after missing the 2010 season due to a wrist injury. “Delpo” is a hard court specialist and has declared that he will be fully fit and rested for the tie, a factor that could be crucial if Novak Djokovic arrives in Belgrade with little time to prepare the tie.
The only previous meeting between the two nations dates back to 1964 and it was won by Serbia, but this tie came when the Serbian players were competing under the flag of Yugoslavia.
Serbia won its first Davis Cup title on this surface and Bogdan Obradovic has made it clear that this court is perfect for them. Although Juan Martin del Potro and David Nalbandian can be considered hard court specialists, the same cannot be said about Juan Monaco and Juan Ignacio Chela, making the surface an advantage for the Serbs.
