Australia World Cup Betting OddsFIFA World Cup Betting: Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oy, oy, oy! The Socceroos are back and playing in their second straight World Cup betting affair after only qualifying for the tournament once before in team history (1974). A talented group of players could be able to spring some upsets on the national stage once again in 2010, but it's going to be a tall order in a tough group for Australia to beat the World Cup odds.

Instead of qualifying in Oceania, Australia got a chance to play in Asia for qualification for the 2010 World Cup. It passed this test with flying colors, losing only two matches and playing dominant soccer on its home turf. M Tim Cahill, the team's most recognizable star, led the team with four goals in qualifying.

GK Mark Schwarzer ran a stretch of seven straight clean sheets together in qualifying, but no one is confusing the Aussie defense as a unit that is going to be able to keep the run of clean sheets going. Instead, an offense that includes names like Cahill and F Harry Kewell is going to have to find a way to put some balls in the back of opposing nets.

The Aussies aren't getting a ton of respect from the oddsmakers in the World Cup lines. They are +600 just to win Group D. The Socceroos are hefty +12500 underdogs to win this entire event, and though it doesn't seem like that that is going to come anywhere near happening, it is rather clear that they are here in South Africa to prove that they really do belong on the international soccer stage.
