Olympic Games Betting Online: The Olympic Games will be returning to London, England for the third time this summer, the most among any location in the history of the modern games. The Olympics were hosted by London in both 1908 and 1948 previously.

This year’s version will take place from July 27, 2012 until August 12, 2012. London was chosen as the winner in July of 2005 after putting out a bid. London beat out eight other applicants to secure the bid. The other contenders were Havana, Istanbul, Madrid, Paris, Leipzig, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and New York City. A preliminary cut dropped Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig and Rio de Janeiro and eventually the competition was whittled down to Paris against London. A final vote gave London the games over Paris by four votes.

London received a rating of 7.6 on the evaluation of the applicants when it originally applied to be the host city. That rating was behind both Madrid (8.3) and Paris (8.5), but was high enough to make it to the second round alongside those two and Moscow and New York City. The final vote was London 54-50 over Paris. In the past few Olympic bids, the British Olympic Association put up Birmingham and Manchester but did not win.

London was the one that worked for England this time, and the country has been hard at work transforming areas into Olympic-friendly venues. The city does have experience with these games in the past, but never this big and with this much attention. It will be interesting to see how London does, as this year’s success will play a role in how Britain does in bids for future Olympic bids in Olympic Games gambling.

2012 Olympic Football Betting

Much has been made about Team GB’s participation in the football event at the 2012 Olympic games. Because there is no Great Britain federation for football (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales all have their own individual FAs) Team GB have never entered a football team into the modern games.

Yet when it was announced that London would be hosting the games there were many calls for the host nation to have a representative in the nation’s most popular sport. After much legal wrangling and discussion between the English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish Football Associations it was decided in June 2011 that Great Britain would enter a football team into the 2012 Olympic Games.

Due to Olympic regulations any men’s Olympic football team is allowed to include only three players over the age of 23. So the tournament is effectively a under-23 tournament, with a handful of players 24 or older involved.
