NASCAR Betting Online: As the Chase gets closer and closer to fruition, the races get increasingly important.  The Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, thus, is the most important race of the season to this point.  With only next week's NASCAR Championship left to race, this one promises plenty of drama as drivers try desperately to gain points going into the final event.

PIR is a tri-oval track spanning one mile and dominated by two men.  First is Mark Martin who holds track records in top-5's, top-10's, starts, and most laps completed, but is unfortunately sitting at home, entrenched at 15th place, and enjoying some quality couch time.

The other dominator at the PIR, and truly of everything Sprint Cup Chase, is Jimmie Johnson.  The living legend has won four straight cup Championships, giving him the majority of the titles since the invention of the Chase in 2004.  Along with his Chase cups, Jimmie Johnson has also notched three straight victories in this, the second to last race of the NASCAR's version of the “postseason.”

With track favorite Martin long gone from contention, the title as most accomplished driver at Phoenix officially goes to Jimmie Johnson. However, he is not the only driver in this year's Chase to win this event.  Since 1999, Tony Stewart, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick have all received the Checker flag at Phoenix International Raceway. So, while Johnson's momentum from three straight track victories, and four straight to Cup Championship wins may keep him on high, he must be aware of his fellow, accomplished and capable competitors ready to snap both his track win streak, and his Cup Championship dynasty.

When placing your bets on the Kobalt Tools 500, keep in mind this season's previous race at Phoenix International Raceway that took place back in April.  While non-qualifier Ryan Newman took home first place, Chase members Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson came in second and third respectively.  With Johnson's strong showing this year, plus his recent domination of this track, event, and Sprint Cup, you will be hard pressed to bet against the man.  If you choose to go a different direction, do so at your own peril.  I see Johnson pulling out another victory to keep the streak alive.

2011 Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix Winner

Kasey Kahne managed to win his first NASCAR event since 2009 on Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

In a race between the only two drivers mathematically alive for the Cup championship, Edwards finished second and Stewart third, but Stewart led the most laps for the second consecutive week and leaves Phoenix just three points behind Edwards as the drivers prepare to settle the issue in the season finale next Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Jeff Burton ran fourth at Phoenix with Ryan Newman in fifth. A.J. Allmendinger, David Reutimann, Marcos Ambrose, Paul Menard and Clint Bowyer completed the top 10.

2010 Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix - Race Results

Carl Edwards snapped a 70-race winless streak in the Sprint Cup Series by taking Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Edwards passed Denny Hamlin for the lead with 47 laps remaining, and then conserved enough fuel to claim his first Sprint Cup win since the 2008 season-ending race at Homestead, FL. Edwards had a dominating weekend at Phoenix by winning the pole and leading the way in all three practices for the 312-mile (500 km) race. He also won Saturday's Nationwide Series event here.

It was Edwards' 17th career victory in the series.
