The Top Gear 300 has existed by other names since 1982.  Originally the Mello Yello 300, I think everyone can agree that this new name is an improvement.

In its 30 year history, the History 300 has sported big name winners including Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett, Jeff Gordon, and many more.  Many of the top drivers in racing will be hoping to add their names to this illustrious list.

Taking place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, this race is steeped in history.  Charlotte is entering its 51st year, and it has never looked better.  The 1.5 mile quad-oval track is home to several NASCAR events and neighbor to many home bases of NASCAR race teams. Holding 140,000 people, the Charlotte Motor Speedway is a favorite of fans and drivers around the country.

The History 300 this year will be highlighted by the possible fifth win of driver Kyle Busch.  Busch's last two wins have come on Green-white-checker finishes, though last year's win at 132.216 mph, was the fastest average speed since 2003, when Matt Kenseth averaged 138.302 mph.

Trevor Bayne was watching, but Matt Kenseth was driving. Both were able to celebrate a victory on Saturday.

Kenseth, in his only start in the Nationwide Series this season, passed Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards with two of 200 laps remaining and won the Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kenseth was a late fill-in for Bayne, who has missed the last month of racing because of an as-yet undiagnosed illness. Bayne is scheduled to return to this No. 16 Ford team next weekend at Chicagoland Speedway
