NASCAR Betting Online: Ever since 1971, Dover Motor Speedway has been home to one of the most coveted prizes in NASCAR. The Sprint Cup boys will take to the circuit in the state capitol of Delaware this September for the AAA 400. This is going to be the second straight year that the race at Dover goes by this name. Before that, it was the Camping World RV 400, the Dodge Dealers 400, and the Dover 400. Prior to 2006, MBNA had been the sponsor of this event since 1995.
Winning this event back-to-back is something that isn't out of the ordinary at this one mile oval. David Pearson won this event in 1972 and 1973, while Richard Petty, the race's first champion in 1971, went back-to-back in '74 and '75 also. Harry Gant pulled off the feat in 1984-85, while Ricky Rudd did it the next two years. Rusty Wallace won both the '93 and '94 races at Dover and Jeff Gordon captured the checkered flag in 1995-96. The only three-peat champion of the AAA 400 is Mark Martin, who won in 1997, 1998, and 1999. Ryan Newman is the most recent back-to-back champ having won in 2003 and 2004.
Jimmie Johnson won this event in 2002, 2005, and 2009, and he can become a four-time winner of this event by adding his name to the list of repeat champions this year. Johnson has used strong performances in this race, the second leg of the Chase for the Championship, to help propel him to his four straight Sprint Cup Championships. The driver of the No. 48 Chevy has also won the two richest prizes ever here at Dover, $296,641 in 2005 and $276,076 last year.
Speed isn't always a given at Dover Motor Speedway either. Johnson completed this race last year with an average speed of 118.704 MPH, which was the highest since 2004. The course record was set by Chase for the Championship hopeful, Mark Martin in 1997, as he crossed the finish line with an average speed for the 400 miles of 132.719 MPH. It was also the shortest race in terms of time ever here at Dover at a shade over three hours.

2011 Dover AAA 400 Winner - Kurt Busch won
Kurt Busch made the most of the opportunities presented to him as he held off challenges from Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards to win the AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway in the Sprint Cup Series on Sunday, October 2, 2011.
Edwards and Kevin Harvick share the points lead in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship standings after three rounds. Harvick is seeded first because of a tiebreaker.
Biffle hit a wall on Lap 361, resulting in the 10th caution of the AAA 400.
The top-10 finishers all took advantage with point leader and two-time winner Tony Stewart struggled to a 25th-place finish.
Johnson Takes 2010 AAA 400, Back in Contention
Jimmie Johnson, who has struggled this season after winning an unprecedented four straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship titles, is solidly in the hunt for a fifth straight Cup after his AAA 400 victory on Sunday.
Johnson came into the 10-race Chase for the Cup playoff series just 10 points behind Denny Hamlin, but after last week's Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he found himself in 6th place after a 25th-place finish.
The bad start is effectively erased now, with Johnson back in 2nd place and 35 points out of the lead behind Hamlin, who finished 9th Sunday after opening the Chase with a 2nd-place finish at New Hampshire.
Jeff Burton was 2nd, more than 2-1/2 seconds behind Johnson, who's Chevrolet led the field for 191 laps Sunday. Burton called the No. 48 team "the class of the field."
Joey Logano's Toyota was 3rd behind the two Chevrolets, with Kurt Busch 4th in a Dodge and Carl Edwards 5th in a Ford.
