NASCAR Betting Online: The top drivers battle as the Chase for the Sprint Cup races down the stretch.  The top twelve come into the Texas Motor Speedway only three races from the end, so tension will be running high.

The Texas Motor Speedway sports a quad-oval, 1.5 mile track similar to the Charlotte and Atlanta Motor Speedways. Since its inaugural race in 1997, the current twelve in the Chase have dominated the track; Carl Edwards owns the record for most wins with three, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Matt Kenseth share the record for most top 5s with 7, Mark Martin has notched the most top 10's at 11, and Denny Hamlin has the best average finish of any driver at the track.

In all, nine of the twelve drivers in the Chase this year have notched victories at Texas Motor Speedway, with Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, and Kevin Harvick left as the unfortunate three unable to claim any victories at the track.

Denny Hamlin won the last race at this track, the Samsung Mobile 500, holding off Jimmie Johnson while still nursing his surgically repaired left knee.  The win was his second in three weeks at the time, and signaled the end of Jimmie Johnson's early season momentum.  Up to that point, with seven races of the Sprint Cup Series already finished, Johnson had already won three and seemed poised to continue his recent domination of the Championship.  By holding off Johnson, Hamlin launched himself into the Chase discussion, going on to win three more before Johnson would notch his next one.

Look for Hamlin and Johnson to continue their jockeying in the AAA Texas 500, with Edwards, Gordon, Kenseth, and Martin all looking to extend their track records.  When making your bet on this highly anticipated Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup event, do not forget about track win leader Carl Edwards, who swept the two events at this track back in 2008.  Look for Edwards to continue his success at Texas and cross the line first on Sunday, ahead of the rest of the experienced pack.

2011 AAA Texas 500 Winner - Tony Stewart wins NASCAR AAA Texas 500

Tony Stewart got what he wanted and so did NASCAR.

The gruff, plain-talking driver from Indiana tightened the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship to nearly a whisker, winning the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway and setting up a tantalizing two-race sprint to the end of the season at NASCAR's highest level.

Stewart sliced five points off the eight-point lead Carl Edwards carried into Sunday's race, taking the maximum 48 he could collect.

Edwards finished second, Kasey Kahne of Enumclaw placed third and Greg Biffle of Vancouver, Wash., was fifth of 43. Neither Kahne nor Biffle is among the 12 drivers who qualified for the Chase.

Edwards' runner-up finish allowed him to absorb most of the damage and keep the points lead, but he has no doubt about how fast Stewart is closing on him.

2010 AAA Texas 500 - Race results

Denny Hamlin might have been starting from a discouraging 30th position on the grid, but earlier in the year he had won at the same track from 29th - and he repeated the achievement this weekend at a critical moment in the fight for the 2010 Sprint Cup.

It's only the second time a driver has swept the year's Texas Motor Speedway events, and is Hamlin's 16th career win in the series. It puts him into the lead in the championship, the first time since 2006 that Jimmie Johnson hasn't led at this stage (and duly gone on to win.)

Although fast on the track, Johnson was hit by problems with his pit crew that were so bad, pit chief Chad Knaus finally took the emergency decision to switch them out en masse and bring in Jeff Gordon's pit crew for the remainder of the race. That was after Gordon himself was spun into a wreck by Jeff Burton on lap 191: Gordon was livid and stormed over to confront Burton, the two of them exchanging blows on track until NASCAR officials finally pulled them apart.

Kyle Busch was also furious with how the afternoon went, after getting hit by a pit lane speeding penalty. He expressed his anger with a single finger salute to NASCAR officials, which was caught on the live TV feed: Busch was penalised two laps for "unsportsmanlike conduct" after his "inappropriate gestures" and faces more sanctions from NASCAR post-race.
