NHL Betting Odds: The Stanley Cup has a longer history than any other trophy in sports betting. It's even older than the NHL itself. The same cup has been passed on from champion to champion for over 100 years. Unlike its NBA, MLB, and NFL counterparts, there is only one trophy for the NHL champion.
When Frederick Stanley, the 16th Earl of Derby, The Lord Stanley of Preston, purchased the original Cup from the London silversmith G.R. Collis in 1893 for 10 guineas, it was about 7.5 inches high and almost 11.5 inches in diameter.
The Stanley Cup was first awarded to the amateur hockey champion of Canada in 1892. And it was not completely controlled by the NHL until 1947.
Stanley Cup Betting is nothing short of thrilling, as two teams compete head to head in a series of six games to determine the winner of the NHL championship. Each year, thousands of bettors flock to top online sportsbooks to bet on the Stanley Cup, choosing straight up bets on the outcomes of each series game, or, alternatively, choosing to wager on Stanley Cup props, Stanley Cup exotic wagers, or Stanley Cup futures.
As the NHL playoffs conclude, the Stanley Cup betting opportunties begin. With six games of action, bettors have plenty of opportunities to bet on the Stanley Cup series. The multiple game championship actually allows players some room for error: unlike the SuperBowl, where everything happens in just one game, the NHL play offs function over the course of multiple games, allowing players to recover any losses incurred early in the series by making successful wagers at the end. If the series is close, however, and the winner will be determined by one final game, hockey betting action gets just as intense as the Super Bowl, with players scrambling last minute to get their tickets in.
