NHL Betting Online: Toronto played well towards the end of last season, but it wasn’t quite enough as the team fell short of making the playoffs, finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs went 18-9-6 to end the  season, but finished eight points behind the New York Rangers for the final spot in the postseason.
Toronto has reason for optimism as the 2011-12 season nears. The team made a pair of key offensive acquisitions this offseason. Tim Connolly battled injuries last season with the Buffalo Sabres, but has joined the Maple Leafs and, if healthy, should give the team another option to get the puck in the net. Matthew Lombardi was another key pickup, because while he battled concussion symptoms last year that held him out the majority of the season, he had 19 goals and 34 assists for the Coyotes in 2009-10 and should be a boost if he can stay on the ice. Defensively, the biggest pickup was John-Michael Liles, who comes over via trade from the Colorado Avalanche. He will play in front of goaltender James Reimer, who will be one of the biggest factors as to whether Toronto can make the jump to the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Reimer took advantage of injuries to starter Jean-Sebastian Giguere last season to get some time between the pipes, and did impress. Reimer was 20-10-5 with a 2.60 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .921. If he can duplicate those numbers, it will go a long way in making Toronto successful.
The Maple Leafs bring back top four point scorers Phil Kessel, Clarke MacArthur, Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin from a season ago, and they are hoping some offseason acquisitions and more of Reimer will catapult them into the postseason in NHL hockey betting.
