NHL Betting Online: Entering the forty-fifth season in franchise history, the St. Louis Blues seem to be aptly named. While they have enjoyed a level of success that cannot be ignored, a complete absence from the Stanley Cup Finals is certainly enough to turn a fan’s heart blue.

True, from 1968-1970, the Blues reached the Stanley Cup Finals three straight times. What resulted for the expansion Blues was three straight four-game sweeps in the Finals. Since the rearrangement of the playoff system and divisions, the Blues have never again reached the Stanley Cup Finals, despite 25 straight playoff appearances, from 1980 to 2004.

Since 2004, the Blues have made the playoffs only once, falling to the Vancouver Canucks in a straight sweep.

Last season saw the Blues finish in mediocrity, placing 11th in the Western Conference and 4th in the Central Division, while finishing ten points out of the last playoff spot.

The Blues will look to make a move in the Central, a division they have not won since 2000, when they took home the President’s Cup. That year marked another disappointment, as they were upset in the first round by the San Jose Sharks.

This offseason, the Blues added two veterans in Jason Arnott, a two-time All-star who has seen his goal totals decline the last two seasons, and Jamie Langenbrunner, a winger who was recently the captain for the United States Olympic team. The Blues hope Arnott and Langenbrunner can bring leadership and savvy to a team desperately trying to reach the ultimate peak.
