However, a move to what is now known as the HP Pavilion, or more affectionately, as the Shark Tank, lifted their spirits and their record. The Sharks went out and won 33 games, more than the total number of franchise wins, and squeezed into the playoffs as an eight seed.
That season saw the Sharks emerge, as they shocked the world by taking down the heavily favorite Detroit Red Wings in seven games in the first round.
The Sharks are the favorites now, with four straight Pacific Division titles and six in the last nine years, and a President’s Cup in 2008-09. However, for all their regular season success, the Sharks cannot seem to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, let alone hoist the trophy. In the near twenty years of the franchise, the Sharks have never made it out of the Western Conference playoffs. Look for this year to be the year that all changes, as the Sharks look primed for another successful year.
