The team did, however, lose to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games in the first round of the playoffs, ending a season that was high on potential but was derailed by the loss of their stars. Crosby missed the final 41 games of the season and Malkin the last 29 and both missed the playoff series against the Lightning and the team didn’t have enough to make a postseason run without them.

If Crosby and Malkin can get back to 100 percent this season, there seems to be little doubt that Pittsburgh could be in the running for the Stanley Cup. Crosby is one of the NHL’s biggest stars, but post-concussion problems have really bothered him, and it remains to be seen whether he will be ready for the beginning of the season. Malkin tore ligaments in his knee, but he is on track to be ready for the regular season to begin.

Marc-Andre Fleury was good in goal for the Penguins last season, as the team’s goals against average of 2.4 per contest was sixth best in the NHL. The team was also very good in the penalty killing portion of games, as it led the league by killing the penalties 86.1 percent of the time. The offense was only in the middle of the pack in scoring at 2.8 goals per game, but that was largely due to the absence of Crosby and Malkin. Even though both players were on the ice for only about half of the team’s games, Crosby still led the team in points and Malkin was sixth.

This is a team that could be a good choice to win the Stanley Cup in NHL hockey gambling. While there is some questions about Crosby’s concussion injury right now, it seems likely that he will be healthy at some point in the season, and if he and Malkin are added to a lineup that is already pretty solid, this will be a team to fear when the NHL postseason rolls around.
