NHL Betting Online: The New York Islanders are one of the few teams in the NHL that can legitimately claim a dynasty in their history. Founded in 1972, the Islanders did not take long to establish themselves as the best team in hockey. It took only two years for the Islanders to go from nonexistent, literally not real, to qualifying and winning in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After the first two seasons saw the Islanders finish with a combined 31 wins, the third season of the franchise saw the Islanders finish third in the division and advance all the way to the Semifinals, where they narrowly lost to the Philadelphia Flyers in seven games.

The Islanders would get used to the postseason, as they went fourteen straight years without missing the playoffs. In that stretch came one of the most dominant eras in hockey history.

The Islanders, beginning in 1980, won four straight Stanley Cups. First, they took down the Philadelphia Flyers four games to two. Then came a four to one series against the Minnesota North Stars, followed by two sweeps, first to the Vancouver Canucks then against the Edmonton Oilers.

In 1984, the run finally came to an end in the Stanley Cup Finals when, in a rematch of the year before, the Oilers got their revenge behind a myriad of stars in Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, and Glenn Anderson.

The Islanders never returned to the Stanley Cup Finals after that, and have not won a playoff series since 1993. New York has finished last in the Atlantic Division four years in a row, and with no significant changes in the offseason, this coming year looks to be more of the same.
