Entering the NHL in 1998 through expansion, the Predators were able to rise to the ranks of respected NHL teams in impressive time. The second round saw the Predators lose to the eventual Western Conference Champion Vancouver Canucks in six games. Yet, the season represented a step forward for the Predators, who hope that this coming year will represent yet another improvement. They will have to do without forward Joel Ward who, after his impressive performance in last year’s playoffs, signed with the Washington Capitals.
