NHL Betting Online: The Nashville Predators have only existed for a short time. Entering the NHL in 1998 through expansion, the Predators were able to rise to the ranks of respected NHL teams in impressive time. While other expansion teams, such as the Columbus Blue Jackets, have failed to make any real impact on the league, the Predators have cemented themselves as a consistent playoff team, and with the success in the first round of last year’s postseason, they could be ready to take the next step.

It all started in 1998 with the NHL’s decision to grant Nashville one of the four new spots in the league. It took the Predators some time before they reached their current level of success. After five seasons in the league, Nashville had yet to record a winning record.

The sixth season would prove to be a breakout year, as the Predators recorded 91 points and entered the postseason as the eighth seed in the Western Conference, despite having a negative goal differential. What followed was a four-year streak of first round losses, a forgettable 2009 campaign, and then another first round defeat in 2010.

However, last season brought another breakthrough. After losing in the first round of the only five playoff appearances in playoff history, again the sixth year was the charm. The Predators took down the Anaheim Ducks in six games in the opening round of last year’s postseason, despite allowing six goals to Duck goal scorer Teemu Selanne.

The second round saw the Predators lose to the eventual Western Conference Champion Vancouver Canucks in six games. Yet, the season represented a step forward for the Predators, who hope that this coming year will represent yet another improvement. They will have to do without forward Joel Ward who, after his impressive performance in last year’s playoffs, signed with the Washington Capitals.
