If you're looking for the best advice for NHL betting, you've certainly come to the right place. Here at Bookmaker sportsbook, we're previewing the 2012-13 season for the Florida Panthers, who used an impressive defense to win the Southeast Division a year ago and will aim for a repeat.
The Florida Panthers retooled their team heading into the 2011-12 season, and it couldn’t have turned out much better. Florida not only made the playoffs for the first time since 2000, but won the Southeast Division by accumulating 94 points. The team’s defense was the key, as Florida allowed only 2.6 goals per game, which was 12th-best in the NHL last season. The Panthers were actually outscored by 24 goals a year ago but had good success in close games to finish as division champions. Florida was the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference but lost a tough first-round series to the New Jersey Devils in seven games. The last game of that series went to double-overtime, so the Panthers have the motivation to get back to the playoffs and win a series in NHL betting.
Florida may have had luck on its side a year ago, which could be cause for concern in NHL betting. The Panthers’ average of 2.4 goals per game was 27th in the league, and they will need to find more offensive firepower this season to repeat as the division champions. Center Tomas Fleischmann led the team with 61 points last year, while Stephen Weiss (57 points), Kris Versteeg (54) and Brian Campbell (53) led a balanced offensive attack. The team recently locked up Versteeg to a four-year contract, so the top players are expected back in 2012-13.
Jose Theodore was the primary goalkeeper a year ago, finishing 22-16 with a 2.46 goals against average. He was a big reason for the team’s success in his first year with the team, and the veteran is expected to once again man the goal for Florida. The Panthers had a very good season in 2011-12, but questions about the offense are valid. If the team can improve in that area it could be an Eastern Conference contender in NHL betting.
