PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds: The playoffs for the FedEx Cup will begin for the third straight year at The Barclays. This is an incredible golf betting festival every year that is now played in August, as some of the best in the world will look to get a leg up on the FedEx Cup chase.
Now known simply as The Barclays, this is a tournament that has undergone a number of name changes over its life. It was originally founded as the Westchester Classic in 1967, and it has had a ton of different sponsors over the years. It became known as the Buick Classic in 1990 and stayed that way until 2005. Barclays took over and renamed it the Barclays Classic before just changing it to its current name in 2007.
Since 1993, there haven't been a ton of different winners of this event. Ironically, none of them are named Tiger Woods. Vijay Singh won this title in 1993, 1995, 2006, and 2008. Ernie Els went back-to-back in 1996 and 1997. Sergio Garcia captured the crown in 2001 and 2004. Seve Ballesteros (1983 and 1988) and Jack Nicklaus (1968 and 1972) are the only other two to win this event more than once. Singh is the only one to win it more than twice.
The Westchester Country Club in New York was the course that originally hosted this event. In 2008, it moved for the first time to the Ridgewood Country Club in neighboring New Jersey. In 2009, Liberty National Golf Club was the home of the tournament. It was played in Plainfield Country Club in 2011.
The winners of this event have had a varying degree of nationalities. Since 1988, Spain, Fiji, South Africa, Ireland, and Australia have all had winners. The Americans currently hold the trophy though, as Heath Slocum won the tournament last year.
It is going to take a heck of an effort to top the tournament records here at Ridgewood this year. Bob Gilder holds the course records for aggregate scoring (261) and record to par (-19). Johnny Miller also shot 19 under in 1974. To put that in perspective, last year, Slocum won by shooting -9 for the four day event, and he only had two rounds in the 60s.

2011 The Barclays Tournament Winner - Dustin Johnson overpowers field in win
As Hurricane Irene continued to make her way up the East Coast early Saturday, 72 golfers started the final round of the Barclays at the Plainfield C.C. A big storm was coming, but the matter of an $8 million purse and FedEx Cup playoff points had to be settled first.
On Friday night, some players had already seen their seasons end. After Saturday, others would pack up their clubs until the Fall Series, as only the top 100 off the FedEx Cup points list would advance to next week.
Shortened to 54 holes, Dustin Johnson had promised a day earlier that Saturday's finale would be a shootout. With the classic Donald Ross design playing soft and short, the best players in the world could order up birdies like hotcakes. And they did as Johnson defeated Matt Kuchar by two shots.
The Barclays 2010 Golf Tournament Final Round: Matt Kuchar wins Barclays
Once again there is no mention of ace golfer Tiger Woods in the top five slot. He continues to struggle. However, to some extent he has been able to improve his game that is by occupying the 15th position, which is his best since be made a comeback after a self-imposed leave from the game.
This time the media glare was on Matt Kuchar. He defeated Martin Laird in a playoff with a 7-iron out of the rough. Those who got an opportunity to watch the match were highly impressed by Kuchar's performance.
Kuchar closed with a 5-under 66. He was in good form. Thus his victory was on expected line. This was Kuchar's first victory of the year. With this triumph Kuchar has moved him to No. 1. Besides, in the FedEx Cup standings has given him a good shot at the $10 million prize.
