Sicilian Golf Open Betting OddsEuropean Tour Golf Betting Odds: From 29th March to 1st April 2012, Verdura Golf & Spa Resort will host the prestigious Sicilian Open 2012. As part of the PGA European Tour, the resort's championship links will welcome the defending champion Raphael Jacquelin along with 143 other professional players who will compete for the honour of becoming the Sicilian Open champion, winning both coveted Ryder Cup points and points towards the "Race to Dubai" cash prize.

The 45 holes at Verdura are made up of two 18-hole, links-style golf courses and one 9-hole par 3 golf course, all designed by leading golf architect Kyle Phillips, who has earned a reputation for developing design solutions that work in close harmony with the landscape. Sir Rocco Forte, a keen sportsman with a lifelong passion for golf, entrusted Phillips with the project of creating links-style golf courses in an area that is totally different from the Scottish coast in both temperature and landscape. Embracing the challenge with great enthusiasm, Phillips created superb links.

The courses have been set on 230 hectares of land facing 1.8 km of coast. Both start beside an internal practice range, enjoy a first sight of the sea in the central area and then give the golfer a tremendous, breathtaking, seaside closing run.

Challenging golf courses with outstanding views, pleasant temperatures and gentle sea breezes from the south -west Sicilian coast make the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort a unique location for the Sicilian Open 2012.

2012 Sicilian Open Winner - Olesen holds off Wood to win Sicilian Open

Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark shot a 69 to win the Sicilian Open by 1 shot on Sunday, holding off England's Chris Wood who equaled the course record with an 8-under 64 on Sunday.

Olesen made six birdies to finish with an overall 15-under 273 at Verdura Golf and Spa Resort for his first career victory on the European Tour.

Wood picked up five shots in his first five holes -- including an eagle on the par-5 fourth -- and tied for the lead when Olesen bogeyed after hitting a wild approach shot to the 13th green.

But the 22-year-old Olesen, who led by three shots overnight, recovered with a birdie on No. 14 and finished with four straight pars.

Former PGA Championship winner Rich Beem finished tied at 11th, along with John Daly and six others.

2011 Sicilian Open Results

Raphaël Jacquelin held off a spirited challenge from Anthony Wall to win his third European Tour title at the Sicilian Open.

A two-and-a-half hour delay for dangerous weather conditions on Sunday forced a Monday finish at Donnafugata Golf Resort and SPA, with the leading pair resuming with just one shot separating them and six holes to play.

Wall twice wiped out the deficit, only to find water at the penultimate hole and run up a double bogey as 36 year old Jacquelin walked away with the €166,660 first prize.

Jacquelin closed with a three under par round of 68 for a 12 under par total, finishing one shot clear of Wall after his playing partner birdied the last.
