Reno – Tahoe Open Betting OddsPGA Tour Golf Betting Odds: The PGA Tour heads to Reno, Nevada the first week of August for the Reno-Tahoe Open. The event is played the same week as the WGC-Bridgestone World Championship so it does not attract a very strong field, but at the same time it gives rookies a chance to get their career started or grizzled veterans the chance to resurrect their craft.

Located in the foothills overlooking Reno, Nevada, Montreux Golf and Country Club will once again test the professionals. Opened in 1997, the course is a Jack Nicklaus design and is the host course of the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open and has been since 1999. Montreux Golf and Country Club weaves through both open high desert areas and tall pines, which makes some parts of the course susceptible to winds, while other holes are dead calm. It can play up to 7,500 yards from the championship tees.

The par-4 17th is a feature hole here and many consider it the signature hole, playing from a high elevated tee to a small fairway lined with trees more than 100 feet below. Montreux Golf and Country Club's 18th hole is a long par 5, but during the PGA Tour stop, the nines are flip-flopped and it plays as the ninth hole.

2011 Reno-Tahoe Open results - Mild-mannered Piercy defies odds at Reno-Tahoe Open

Scott Piercy had the 54-hole lead at the Reno-Tahoe Open, but even with a two-shot advantage there was no reason to think he was going to win Sunday at Montreux Golf and Country Club.

Not only had he never won on the PGA Tour before, he had never played well when he had a chance to win.

Twice in 2009, his rookie year, he shared the 54-hole lead. He finished tied for 12th and tied for 14th. Five times he'd been in the final group on Sunday, but his best finish was a tie for fifth in the 2009 Honda Classic.

He was coming off a course-record 11-under-par 61 in Saturday's third round. No one ever follows a fantastic round with anything memorable.

And by the time he had bogeyed the 14th hole Sunday, tour veteran Pat Perez had caught up to him. With three nerve-wracking holes to play, Piercy and Perez, winner of the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, were tied.

And here we have another example of why sport trumps Hollywood any day of the week. The original reality TV gave us another beauty.

The mild-mannered and completely unexcitable pro cast aside all the factors stacked against him and joined an elite fraternity, that of PGA Tour winners, by draining a 7-foot par putt for a one-shot win over Perez.
