Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Golf BettingEuropean Tour Golf Betting Odds: PGA Tour betting action heads to Doha, Qatar starting the first week of February this year, where some of the best golfers on the PGA Tour will look to pick up a big time victory to get their campaign started. The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters always attracts some of the best and brightest the sport has to offer, and there are always some incredibly low scores that should make for a tremendous weekend of golf.

This tournament was originally debuted in 1998, when Scot Andrew Coltart picked up the win by shooting a (-18) 270. The very next year, another Scotland native, Paul Lawrie, scored a 'W' by shooting a tournament record (-20) 268; that mark was matched nine years later by Adam Scott, who shot a (-20) as well to pick up the tournament win.

Scott is the only two time winner of this event, as he won here in 2002, and in his record setting performance in 2008. He is probably one of the most illustrious golfers to ever win here, though Ernie Els' victory in 2005 is clearly one of the best as well. Els was one of two golfers to ever win this event by scoring worse than a (-14) for the tournament, with the other being Rolf Muntz, who won with a (-8) 280 in 2000.

The event’s defending champion is Robert Karlsson, who used this win to springboard him to a fantastic campaign. Karlsson shot a (-15) 273 to take the title, making him the second Swede to capture this title, joining Joakim Haeggman, who won it in 2004.

Jose Maria Olazabal, the captain of the European Ryder Cup team is going to be playing here in Qatar this coming week, and he will be joined by John Daly, who continues to try to revive his career. Though Tiger Woods won't be in the field, the top two ranked players in the world will be, as both Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer will be teeing off at the Doha Golf Club. Sergio Garcia, Steve Stricker, and Ian Poulter will also be playing. This is a far cry from the types of fields this event used to offer up, as in 2005, there was only one player ranked in the Top 50 in the world that made an appearance.

Should Daly or any other American claim this title, they would become the first to nail down this illustrious event.

2012 Commercialbank Qatar Masters - Paul Lawrie wins Qatar Masters

Former British Open champion Paul Lawrie chipped in for an eagle and a birdie on his way to winning the wind-shortened Qatar Open on Sunday, shooting a 7-under 65 to hold off Jason Day and Peter Hanson.

Lawrie finished with a 15-under total of 201 to win his seventh European Tour event and his second in Qatar. Day (65) and Hanson (67) tied for second, four strokes back.

It was Lawrie's second victory in a year _ he also won the Andalucian Open last March _ after a nine-year drought. Now in the top 45, he could contend for a spot in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Lawrie downplayed his age, saying he is playing better now than he was in 1999 when he won the British Open. He added that his putting has improved significantly in the past few months, which allowed him to contend at the season-ending DP World Championship and again last week in Abu Dhabi.

2011 Commercialbank Qatar Masters - Thomas Bjorn Wins Qatar Masters

Thomas Bjorn of Denmark has won the $2.5 million Qatar Masters. The event held at the Doha Golf Club was bagged by Bjorn with an impressive four shots. He posted three under 69 in the bogey free final round and finished the tournament with a total score of 14-under-par 274.

After his victory, the most successful Danish golfer in the world said, “In the end it became a bit of a cruise, but I'm delighted with the week. I played solid golf - I think I made one bogey in the last 54 holes. On this golf course and in these conditions, that's good going." Bjorn also felt confident enough to take on the best in the world and achieve bigger targets in the future. This was the second victory in the Middle East after 2001 for vice Captain of the European Ryder Cup team, when he beat Tiger Woods. This win had brought a drastic change in his rankings from no. 133 into the top 60. The breakthrough win, which came after he ended up finishing a couple of Qatar Tournaments as runner-up, has also helped him to secure a place at the World Match play championship to be held in Arizona later this year.
