European Tour Golf Betting Odds: The KLM Open is an annual golf tournament played in The Netherlands, and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the Tour was inaugurated in 1972. Founded in 1912, the tournament was originally known as the Dutch Open, before a variety of sponsors resulted in numerous name changes over the years, with KLM being the current incumbents. The tournament has been moved around the golfing calendar somewhat, but is currently held in September. It returned to one of its most frequent venues, Hilversumsche GC in 2011, and will be held there again in 2012.
Hilversumsche Golf Club is located in National Park “De Utrechtse Heuvelrug,” this is a park of national and international importance, designated by the European Union as a Natura 2000 area. The effect of this park on the golf course can be seen from the diversity of valuable flora and fauna. The golf course is designed by the architects Henry Burrows and Harry Shapland Colt, and opened in 1922. These famous designers created an exceptional golf landscape where golf and nature are in harmony with one another. The avenues of predominantly pine trees, but also oak, birch and beech, line the rolling fairways, sometimes quite tightly, other times giving you a chance to hit-out with the driver. Many of the greens are well-bunkered, narrowing the space for your approach shots, or requiring a high-flight shot directly onto the green.
2011 KLM Open Winner - Simon Dyson claims third KLM Open title
England's Simon Dyson climbed into the world's top 30 for the first time in his career after claiming his third KLM Open in six years.
The 33-year-old recovered well from dropped shots at the fourth and eleventh, shooting birdies on four of the last seven holes to beat compatriot David Lynn by one shot.
He joins an illustrious list of three-time winners in Holland, which includes Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer.
US Open champion Rory McIlroy finished third, a result which lifted him back up to number three in the rankings following a similar finish in the European Masters.
Meanwhile, Great Britain and Ireland's top amateurs won the Walker Cup for the first time in eight years, beating their US counterparts 14-12 at Royal Aberdeen.
The hosts needed 13-and-a-half points to take the title and they took an insurmountable lead when 17-year-old Welshman Rhys Pugh won his singles match against Kelly Kraft and Steven Brown halved with Blayne Barber.
