Golf Live Lines: The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a regular PGA golf tournament. It is played annually in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was previously known by many different names, the Zurich Classic has been around for a long time and now is called the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the tournament was first played in 1938, and with the exception of gaps in the ‘40s and ‘50s, this event has been played in the Crescent City ever since.
From the event's inception through 2004, it was played at a series of courses in New Orleans. It began at New Orleans City Park, where it was played until 1962.
In 2005, it was played at the TPC of Louisiana, but damage done to the course by Hurricane Katrina forced the event back to English Turn G&CC in 2006. It returned to the TPC of Louisiana in 2007.
Now the Zurich Financial Services is the main sponsor of the tournament. The 2012 purse is $6,400,000, with $1,152,000 going to the winner.

2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Winner - Dufner takes Zurich Classic for first PGA Tour win
Jason Dufner beat Ernie Els with a birdie on the second hole of a playoff Sunday in the Zurich Classic to win for the first time in 164 starts on the PGA Tour.
After entering the fourth round with a two-shot lead, Dufner shot a 2-under 70 at TPC Louisiana. Els had a 67 to match Dufner at 19-under 269.
After both players missed birdie putts within 8 feet on the par-5 18th, they went back to the 18th tee for the second extra hole, which Dufner won by hitting the green in two strokes and tapping home a short birdie putt after Els' birdie attempt from the fringe narrowly missed.
Dufner lost playoffs last year to Mark Wilson in the Phoenix Open and Keegan Bradley in the PGA Championship for two of his three career runner-up finishes.
The 6-foot-3 Els, who goes by the nickname "The Big Easy," hasn't won on the PGA Tour since the 2010 Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, a little more than two years ago.
He did not have a single bogey in the final round or playoff, and would have won his 19th career PGA Tour event in, of all places, the Big Easy, if he could have made a birdie putt of a little less than 6 feet on the first playoff hole. He pushed it more than 2 feet past the edge of the hole.
2011 Winner
Bubba Watson has been working on becoming a better man.
Watson overcame a three-stroke deficit over the final eight holes of regulation and beat Webb Simpson in a playoff Sunday in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans for his second PGA TOUR victory of the year and third of his career. The victory put him atop the FedEx Cup standings as the season officially passed the Regular Season halfway mark.
He also had a little luck.
It came in the form of a bad break for Simpson, who remained winless on the PGA TOUR and was left to wonder what might have been if not for an unusual one-stroke penalty on 15 when his ball moved as he was addressing it on the green, less than a foot from the hole.
Watson, also the winner in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in late January, matched Simpson with a 3 under 69 to finish at 15-under 273 at TPC Louisiana. Both players birdied the 18th on the first extra hole, with Watson making a 12-foot putt to force the second playoff.
2010 Winner
Jason Duehn Bohn, this American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour won his second PGA Tour event five years after he won his first one.
Mr. Bohn played on the Canadian Tour and the Nationwide Tour before earning promotion to the PGA Tour, where he has played since 2004. He won $866,786 on tour in 2008, good enough for 123rd on the money list and a full tour card for 2009.
Now the first price of this event was 1,152,000, and all of it was for Mr Bohn.
