Golf Betting Online: Each PGA Tour betting season, approximately 70-80 golfers from around the globe are invited to play in the WGC-NEC Bridgestone Invitational. This event is always in the month of August. In order to qualify for the WGC-NEC Bridgestone Invitational, you have to fit into one of the following categories. If you played on either the Presidents Cup or the Ryder Cup teams, you are issued an invite. You also get a ticket to the Firestone Country Club in Akron if you are ranked in the Top 50 in the world or if you are the champion of one of a few specific events in the previous year.
This event originally started as the World Series of Golf. Jack Nicklaus was the first winner of this event in 1976, and ironically, it was his only victory in it. Americans dominated the proceedings until 1983, when Zimbabwe cashed in with Nick Price in 1983 and Denis Watson in 1984. The first European to win this event was Jose Maria Olazabal in 1990. A South American has never won it.
In 1984, the World Series of Golf gained a sponsorship and was called the NEC World Series of Golf. This continued until 1998 when WGC joined as a co-sponsor. Bridgestone joined the party in 2006, and the event has been known as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational ever since.
The first two-time winner of this event was Craig Stadler. "The Walrus" won this event both in 1982 and 1992. Olazabal earned his second title just four years after becoming the first European to ever win the World Series of Golf. Australian Greg Norman won in both 1995 and 1997.
However, no one aside from the great Tiger Woods has won this event more than twice. Tiger has won seven times since 1999 with victories in '99, '00, '01, '05, '06, '07, and '09. The only men to stop Woods' rein in this PGA Tour betting affair have been Craig Parry (2002), Darren Clarke (2003), Stewart Cink (2004), and Vijay Singh (2008).
Woods holds the tournament record in this event from 2000 when he shot a stupendous 21 under par. He has shot at least -6 in all of his victories here.

2011 WGC Bridgestone Invitational Results - Adam Scott Runs Away With Victory
The narrative completed itself, and now we can be done with it, you'd hope: Steve Williams, Tiger Woods' recently fired caddy, helped his new boss Adam Scott score a victory over Woods at the 2011 Bridgestone Invitational. Wrap it up in a neat and tidy bow and let's put it somewhere nice.
Scott came into the day with a lead and pushed the advantage through the final round, shooting a 65 to reach 17-under for the tourney. At 13-under, Rickie Fowler and Luke Donald split second place after each shooting 66 on Sunday, followed by Jason Day and Ryo Ishikawa at 12-under. That's two Aussies in the top four, if you're mapping at home.
Woods finished 1-over after shooting even par for the day.
Hunter Mahan wins the 2010 WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Hunter Mahan is doing things he never imagined possible, on and off the golf course.
He thought it was "crazy talk" when friends told him he would know immediately when he fell in love, until he met former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Kandi Harris in December and proposed to her in June.
How about beating Tiger Woods by 30 shots at Firestone?
"I never, ever thought that would be possible," Mahan said Sunday, stifling a laugh at the absurdity of it all. "It never crossed my mind. It's definitely different."
Some six hours after Woods finished off the worst tournament of his career, Mahan looked better than ever in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. He ran off five birdies on the front nine to make up a four-shot deficit, delivered three clutch pars down the stretch to protect his lead and closed with a 6-under 64 for a two-shot victory over Ryan Palmer that brought plenty of perks.
Mahan earned $1.4 million to lock up a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, one of his primary goals this year.
He won his first World Golf Championship title and moved to No. 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking, a big step toward joining the elite in golf. And he won for the second time this year, becoming the fifth player this year with multiple victories on the PGA TOUR.
