Transitions Championship Golf Betting OddsGolf Betting Online: The tournament was founded in 2000 as the Tampa Bay Classic. It was originally an alternate event played the same week as the Presidents Cup in 2000, and the same week as the WGC Tour in 2002. It was supposed to be played the same week as the WGC-American Express Championship on September 13-16, 2001. However, the Terrorist attacks of Sept 11th forced the cancellations of both tournaments.

Since 2007, the Tampa Bay event has been played in March, and for a time the tournament was without a title sponsor, creating some doubts on its fate after that year. On January 24, 2007, tournament principles and the PGA Tour announced a six-year sponsorship agreement with the PODS Group of Clearwater, Florida. But, PODS chose to exercise an option to withdraw as title sponsor after the 2008 event, which left tournament officials searching to find yet another replacement.

On June 4, 2008, Transitions Optical, Inc. was announced as the new title sponsor. Transitions Optical continues its ongoing commitment as sponsor of the event, while helping consumers protect and maintain healthy sight, at play and more.

From 2003 to 2006, the Tampa Bay event had a slot in the schedule to itself as the last full-field event before the Tour Championship, while having the Chrysler Corporation as the title sponsor.

The players with the most wins in the event are Retief Goosen (2003 and 2009), and K.J. Choi (2002 and 2006).

The tournament record was set by Vijay Singh in 2004 with a -18 winning total of 266.

2012 Transitions Championship Winner - Win boosts Donald to No 1

Luke Donald reclaimed the World No 1 ranking from Rory McIlroy by winning the US PGA Transitions Championship on Sunday, but wants McIlroy and Tiger Woods to enjoy the Masters spotlight.

Two weeks before players gather at Augusta National for the first major tournament of the year, England's Donald won a four-man playoff to take back the top ranking spot he surrendered when McIlroy won in Miami two weeks ago.

Donald, the reigning money champion of the US and European PGA Tours, has never won a major title and he hopes that his lofty status does not mean he might draw attention away from phenom McIlroy or 14-time major winner Woods.

2011 Transitions Championship Winner

Gary Woodland fired a four under par, 67, to win the PGA Tour Transitions Championship at Innisbrook Golf Resort, Florida, USA.

Woodland, finished on -15, 269, and one shot ahead of compatriot Webb Simpson (69) on -14, 270.

In third place on -12, 272, was sponsor invite, Scott Stallings (70) of the USA.

In fourth position on -11, 273, was American Brandt Snedeker (70).

In T5 place on -10, 274, were Scotland's Martin Laird (70), Roland Thatcher (70) and Chris Couch (71) of the USA, Brendon de Jonge (73) of Zimbabwea and overnight leader Justin Rose (74) of England.

2010 Transitions Championship winner

Jim Furyk's PGA victory at the Transitions Championship returned him to the No. 6 position in the men's world golf rankings.

Furyk won the Transitions by one stroke over K.J. Choi with a final-round 2-under-par 69 that was delayed about 4 hours by thunderstorms in the Palm Harbor, Fla., area. It was the 14th career PGA win, but first since July 2007, for Furyk, who moved from ninth to sixth in the world rankings. He began the year at No. 6.

His move brought the only changes in the Top 10 as he pushed Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer and Ernie Els each down one spot to Nos. 7-9, respectively. Padraig Harrington kept the No. 10 spot.

The top five positions are the same. Tiger Woods, who announced last week he would return to play at the Masters in two weeks, leads the list followed by, in order, Steve Stricker, Phil Mickleson, Lee Westwood and Paul Casey.
