Memorial Tournament Golf Betting OddsGolf Online Betting: The Memorial Tournament is a PGA Tour golf tournament founded by Jack Nicklaus and played on a Nicklaus-designed course at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The golf course passes through a large neighborhood called Muirfield Village.

Background

Given that Columbus, Ohio is where Nicklaus was born and raised, where he started his own family, and where he learned the game of golf, it was a dream of his to create a golf club which not only incorporated his personal and professional life, but also an event that would long represent his passion for tournament golf, while giving back to the very community that embraced Nicklaus and the game of golf his entire life.

His dream was fulfilled in May 1976, with the first playing of the Memorial Tournament – precisely two years to the day after the Grand Opening and the first rounds were played at Muirfield Village.

As one of the restricted field events on the PGA Tour, only the first 75 players on the previous year's money-list are guaranteed an invitation to the Memorial Tournament.

Additionally, one of the main features of the Memorial is the annual induction ceremony honoring past golfers; a plaque for each honoree can be found on display near the clubhouse at Muirfield, with Nicklaus himself an honoree in 2000.

Other Memorial honorees include such men's greats as Lee Trevino (2004), Payne Stewart (2001), Jack Nicklaus (2000), Ben Hogan (1999), and Arnold Palmer (1993), in addition to possibly the most historic female athletes of all time, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, who was added to the wall in 1991.

Weather delays

The Memorial is famous for being at the mercy of Ohio's unpredictable springtime weather, and each year usually sees its fair share of threatening weather, resulting in delays. In 1977 weather forced the postponement of the final round of the Memorial Tournament.

The 1990 tournament had to be called off early due to the waterlogged course. The last time a very significant delay took place, however, was 1997.

2011 Memorial Tournament Winner - Stricker 'Thrilled' with Memorial Outcome

Steve Stricker’s challengers came out swinging in Sunday’s final round of the Memorial Tournament, firing at flags, pouring in birdie putts and eliciting Augusta-like roars from the galleries that swarmed Muirfield Village Golf Club from early in the morning until nearly 8:30 at night.

Somehow, Stricker, 44, withstood the barrage. After starting the day with a three-stroke lead, he staved off the run of seven birdies in eight holes by Brandt Jobe and six birdies in nine holes by Matt Kuchar and overcame a late stumble of his own. He made the putts he had to make down the stretch for a round of 68 and a one-stroke victory over Jobe and Kuchar, who each shot 65s.

2010 Champion

Without any winning titles for more than two years, so far down in the world PGA Players ranking that he was in danger of being forgotten in that list, Justin Rose decided to turn that situation into a something completely different for him.

"I've had a few close calls over time, and you start to sometimes wonder why you can't get it done," Rose said.

The final 2010 Memorial Tournament leader board had Justin Rose three shots ahead of Rickie Fowler, but six shots ahead of the third place finishers. This leaded Mr. Rose to win this event.
