Golf Betting Online: The Chevron World Challenge celebrates its 13th year by once again bringing golf's finest stars to Southern California. This year's tournament will be played at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on a course designed by famed architect and professional golfer Jack Nicklaus.
Sherwood is rated one of the best golf courses in the world, featuring 1,800 mature oak trees and lush landscaping including waterfalls, jasmine and rose bushes. In 2006, Sherwood opened the first ever par-3 18-hole golf course and club featuring 14 replicated holes from distinguished Jack Nicklaus-designed courses.
A field of 18 elite PGA Tour players: the current four major winners, the top 11 available from the Official World Golf Rankings, the defending champion and two special-exemption players compete for a $5 million-prize purse. The winner receives $1.2 million, and the 18th-place finisher receives $140,000.
Two of this year's four major championship winners -- Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer -- plus a trio of other major winners and 14 Ryder Cup participants will join Tiger Woods to make up one of the most impressive, elite fields of the year when they compete at the Chevron World Challenge.
The unique, $5 million event features only 18 players who will take on the demanding, 7,027-yard Sherwood Country Club layout. The Chevron World Challenge, co-sponsored by the PGA Tour, is a four-round, 72-hole stroke-play event with $1.2 million awarded to the winner. Jim Furyk returns as the defending champion, having closed with a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday last year to edge McDowell by one stroke to claim the trophy.
Woods (2007) and Davis Love III (2000) share the tournament record at 22-under 266. Woods owns the course record, having fired a 10-under-par 62 in 2007. Last year's tournament marked the first year the Chevron World Challenge was awarded Official World Golf Ranking points. McDowell took full advantage, climbing from 55th to 38th with his runner-up showing.
It should be an exciting tournament to watch and an even better tournament to bet. Check back in December and Bookmaker.eu will have the golf odds available for you.
2011 Chevron World Challenge Winner - Tiger Woods Birdies On 18 To Win Tournament
Tiger Woods completed the comeback, making birdie on 18 to surpass Zach Johnson at the 2011 Chevron World Challenge on Sunday by one shot. Woods posted back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes on his way to shooting 3-under on the day, and 10-under for the tournament. Johnson seemed to play relatively safe after posting two eagles in the third round. He shot even through 15 holes, leaving him tied with Woods. Johnson birdied on 16 to seemingly give himself the lead for good. Woods responded with a birdie of his own on 17 to pull back even heading into the final hole.
Woods earned his first PGA tournament win since 2009, perhaps conquering whatever demons have been hampering for the past two years. Paul Casey, Hunter Mahan and Matt Kuchar rounded out the final top five, shooting 5-under, 4-under and 4-under for the tournament, respectively.
2010 Chevron World Challenge results
U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell capped off his greatest year with two clutch putts that gave him the greatest comeback ever against Tiger Woods.
McDowell holed a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole to force a playoff Sunday in the Chevron World Challenge, then made another birdie putt from a little longer away to deny Woods a victory in his final tournament of the year.
Woods, despite losing a four-shot lead, was poised to end a turbulent year with a victory in his final event. Tied for the lead playing the 18th hole at Sherwood Country Club, he stuffed an 8-iron inside 3 feet for a sure birdie. It was vintage Woods, the kind of magic he has he delivered so often in his career.
But it wasn't the same old outcome.
McDowell, with his own reputation as a tough closer, stayed in the game on the 17th by taking a penalty drop on the 18th tee and escaping with bogey. Then after Woods' great shot, McDowell answered with an all-or-nothing birdie putt.
In the playoff on the same hole, McDowell coaxed in another birdie putt from about 25 feet. Woods had about 15 feet to extend the playoff, but it missed just right of the cup.
