PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds: The 2012 FedEx Cup playoffs will make their third stop this September at the BMW Championship. PGA betting fans surely won't want to miss out on this tournament, as only the Top 70 golfers in the FedEx rankings are eligible to play in this event.
This year, the BMW Championship will be played at Carmel, Indiana at the Crooked Stick Golf Club. This tournament also rotates between several sites, with the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill, and the Bellerive Country Club in Town and Country, MO also in the rotation. The possibility remains to bring this tournament to Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MN, the site of previous US Open Championships.
The BMW Championship replaced the Western Open, which was the third oldest tournament on the PGA Tour before it was scrapped. It ran from 1899 to 2006 before the BMW took its place.
Needless to say, there isn't a heck of a lot of history at this tournament to fall back on. The first winner of the event is also the defending champion, Tiger Woods. Woods captured glory at Cog Hill in the BMW's one and only visit by shooting a tournament record -22.
Regardless of what course this tournament is held at, the scores are seemingly always low. No golfer has ever shot at 69 or higher in a round and gone on to win. Villegas' -15 was the highest score ever recorded by a winner of the BMW Championship.
Winning might not be the only thing on the minds of these 70 golfers, though. Only the 30 highest point earners from this tournament and the two preceding it will survive to play at the following week's Tour Championship, which will crown the FedEx Cup champion.

2011 BMW Championship Winner - BMW turns into tournament not only defined by winner
Maybe it's appropriate that a carmaker is the title sponsor of the third event in the FedEx Cup series.
The BMW Championship, as ever, evolved into a sprint within a marathon within a pretty darned important tournament, too.
With a smattering of undercard undercurrents raging, with stakes in the FedEx finals, spots on the Presidents Cup roster and other sundry things at stake, there was as much tension in the middle of the field as there was for Justin Rose and John Senden, who were slugging it out for the tournament title proper.
For those with ratchets for necks, this might have been the best week of the season, something akin to Qualifying School, where the action on the back end can be just as compelling as tracking the winner. There were so many point lists, subplots and scenarios everybody with an abacus, computer or a few exposed fingers and toes was trying to tally the multiple ramifications of the day.
About all you need to know is that Senden, a journeyman with one career victory, finished two shots behind Rose, yet felt like a winner. He jumped 46 spots up the FedEx Cup points list and secured a spot in the elite, 30-man field in Atlanta next week, which means he's essentially cemented berths in all four majors next season. He even has a legit crack at the FedEx $10 million bonus.
2010 BMW Championship Results - Dustin Johnson’s Dramatic Win
The final moments of the BMW Championship were as nail-biting as any golf fan could wish. Paul Casey was leading as he started the 18th hole, but while he was on it, Dustin Johnson birdied the 17th and took over the lead with a nine under. Casey needed to birdie the 18th to stay in or tie the lead, but he hit his putt short and had to settle for par. He went to the clubhouse at eight under. Ryan Moore also looked like he might be able to get in the top spot, but missed a putt on the 17th, giving him a score of seven under. Matt Kuchar headed to the 18th hole also trailing by two.
Meanwhile Charlie Wi was fighting to keep his projected FedEx rank within 30. His rank was hovering right at the mark, and on the 18th hole a bogey would cost him the trip to Atlanta. His tee shot went in the primary rough, but his second shot landed nicely on the green not too far from the hole. Unfortunately he missed his putt and scored a bogie, which cost him the Tour Championship spot.
Matt Kuchar missed a putt for par on the 18th as well, and fell to three strokes behind the lead.
Ryan Moore’s tee shot landed on one of the loops of grass that stick into the fairway bunkers, and his chip shot flew right into the gallery behind the green. He chipped it from there to the intermediate area closest to the hole — an excellent shot. He then putted it in with two shots for a bogey but he made the FedEx Cup top-30 rank he needed to go to Atlanta next week.
Dustin Johnson played well on the par-4 18th, hitting the fairway off the tee, then the green with his second shot. At that point he had the tournament in the bag, as it gave him a clear two putts to get the ball in the hole and it seemed unlikely he would need more than that. His first putt sent the ball ever so nicely to within a foot of the hole, where he tapped it in for par and the Championship.
