Location: Inverness, Scotland
Date: July 12-15, 2012
European Tour Golf Betting Odds: The Scottish Open, which has been sponsored by Barclays Capital since 2002, is one of the richer golf tournaments on the European Tour. It is currently played at Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness in the North of Scotland. The tournament takes place the week before The Open Championship, and some concern has been expressed that the host course, which is very different from the links courses on which the Open is played, puts European Tour players at a disadvantage in the subsequent major, compared to their leading rivals from the PGA Tour, who traditionally spend a week practicing for the Open on links courses in Ireland.
In 2010, Italian Edoardo Molinari joined his brother Francesco as a European Tour winner at The Barclays Scottish Open. Edoardo, one ahead after his dazzling third round 63, closed with a 74 in the much tougher conditions and, with a 12 under par total of 272, took the first prize by three. With Francesco having won the 2006 Italian Open, Edoardo's victory makes them the third brothers to lift European Tour titles - and this just eight months after they combined to win the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in China.
This year features a showdown; World Number One Luke Donald, and Lee Westwood, the man he supplanted at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking, will resume their healthy rivalry for global supremacy as part of a glittering cast competing in next month’s Barclays Scottish Open. The two much vaunted Englishmen confirmed their participation at Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness along with World Number Six, American Matt Kuchar. This ensures a minimum of five of the top eight players on the World Ranking will carry their combined talents to Scotland from July 7-10, where they will compete for a winner’s check of one million dollars from an overall prize fund of 6 million.
