Austrian Golf Open Betting OddsEuropean Tour Golf Betting Odds:The 2012 Austrian Golf Open returns to the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, near the Austrian capital Vienna, which hosted the tournament for the first time in 2010. The 7,053 yards, par 72 Diamond Course was designed by Jeremy Pern, who also fashioned Golf de la Wantzenau and Golf de Toulouse-Seilh in France, and Toya Golf and Country Club in Poland – all of which have hosted events on the European Challenge Tour.

The Austrian Golf Open was first played in 1990, when Germany’s Bernhard Langer took the title. It was a European Tour event for seven straight years up to 1996, being held under a variety of names due to regular changes of title sponsor. It dropped down to the Challenge Tour schedule between 1997 and 2005, with a sharp reduction in prize money, before returning to the main tour for the 2006 season.

The course, which opened in 2002, features water hazards on nine of the 18 holes, including the 192-yard 11th and 159-yard 15th holes, where both tee shots are played to island greens – similar to that of TPC Sawgrass. There is water everywhere! The player that keeps his ball dry for 72 holes will likely walk away with the 2012 Austrian Open.

2011 Austrian Open Winner - Kenneth Ferrie claims play-off glory in Austrian Open

Kenneth Ferrie came through a play-off with fellow Englishman Simon Wakefield to lift the Austrian Open in Atzenbrugg on Sunday.

The 32 year-old from Newcastle held his nerve to lift a third European Tour title, adding to his wins at the Canarias Open de Espana in 2003 at the Smurfit European Open in 2005.

He sealed the win on the 18th hole, being afforded two putts to do so despite his initial drive going wide of the fairway while Wakefield’s landed on it.

Wakefield, last year’s qualifying school champion, over-hit his second shot into the rough at the back of the green and, after Ferrie had recovered with a beautiful second to within seven feet of the pin, the rest was a formality.

It had so nearly been a three-way play-off, with Holland’s Joost Luiten dropping a shot on the par-four 18th to fall out of contention on 11 under.
