The bye weeks are over so every NFL team will be playing for its playoff life the next five Sundays.
Granted, some teams are out of the postseason picture, but they can still play spoiler for others. Like a Saturday in golf, Week 13 of the regular season should be called 'Moving Day' because a setback by a number of squads could equate to the end of their seasons.
We give thanks in Week 13 because we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28. While gobbling up turkey, football fans and gamblers get to enjoy some pigskin action as there are three games slated for Thanksgiving Day.
Turkey Day kicks off with a 12:30 p.m. ET contest on FOX between the Packers and Lions. The early start means bettors on the West Coast must get their wagers down before 9:30 a.m.! There's a chance Aaron Rodgers could be back for this matchup but in all likelihood he will still be recovering from a broken clavicle.
The second leg of Thursday's tripleheader comes between the Raiders and Cowboys. Dallas was installed as an early home favorite of 7 points with a total of 45.5 at BookMaker. After a pivotal division matchup against the Giants in Week 11, the Boys are just trying to stay alive in the weak NFC East race. Oakland is always capable of pulling off an upset so don't overlook the big underdog.
The Thanksgiving finale will be broadcast by NBC and it offers the second divisional showdown of the holiday. Underwhelming Pittsburgh and Baltimore meet in Maryland and the loser will almost certainly be eliminated from playoff conversations. BookMaker positioned the Ravens as 3-point favorites on the early lines while the total opened at 42.
The first day of December dangles 14 matchups in the eyes of football bettors, the first 13 of which can be viewed regionally on either CBS or FOX. Even though you might not get a game on your TV, don't forget that you can gamble on live spreads, totals, moneylines and even props during commercials at BookMaker.
There are two rematches from Week 11 on the early and late afternoon Week 13 schedule.
The Titans and Colts collide again after the two met on Thursday Night Football on November 14. Tennessee held a 17-3 advantage at one point in that game but as he seemingly always does, Andrew Luck led Indy to a comeback win. The Colts narrowly covered the spread behind a 30-27 victory. This go round, they are 7-point chalk at home.
The Broncos and Chiefs will also butt heads again in Week 13 after playing on Sunday Night Football in Week 11. Denver handed Kansas City its first loss that night, and jumped ahead of the Chiefs in the division. This time, Peyton Manning and Co. will have to deal with the crazy loud confines of Arrowhead Stadium. The early odds for this highly-anticipated contest had the road team favored by a field goal with a total of 48.
Viewers of NBC's Sunday Night Football in Week 13 would have seen a great matchup last year. But in 2013, two of the worst teams from the weakest division in the NFL pair off as the New York Giants travel to the nation's capital for a date with the Washington Redskins.
Many are calling for the scheduling gurus to flex out of this matchup, but it won't happen. Eli Manning and Robert Griffin III will always garner ratings and the almighty dollar is all that matters. When BookMaker sent out a line for this dud last Wednesday, it made the game a PK while the total was set at 45.
Week 13 wraps up with Monday Night Football on ESPN and it is the best game of the week, if not the year. New Orleans traverses to the Upper Northwest to take on the 12th Man and their Seattle Seahawks. These are the two best teams in the NFC. The home squad is laying 5 points and the total surfaced at 45.5.
Drew Brees' offensive line will have to tune out the noise at CenturyLink Field that is notorious for inducing false starts. If that weren't enough, the Seahawks defense, led by ballhawk Richard Sherman, has been a nuisance for opposing quarterbacks this season. Seattle will look to stay on the ground with Marshawn Lynch as the Saints yield one of the league's highest averages to running backs.
Buffalo, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Seattle will be fresh off their byes in Week 13. Teams have fared pretty well against the spread after a week of rest this season.
You'll always want to use the media as a handicapping tool to help you beat the NFL football betting lines. BookMaker also supplies a bevy of trends and stats for each matchup on its website. Best of luck in Week 13 of the 2013 NFL regular season!
