Thu, Sep 08

New Orleans 34 at Green Bay 42

New Orleans ( +4 ) at Green Bay: It’s not surprising this is the Thursday night marquee game, as Green Bay is the defending Super Bowl champion and both teams are expected to compete for a postseason spot this season. This is a game featuring two of the top quarterbacks in the NFL between Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and New Orleans’ Drew Brees.

Sun, Sep 11

Atlanta 12 at Chicago 30

Atlanta ( -3 ) at Chicago: The Bears made the NFC Championship game last season, but people are down on them this year, as evidenced by the point spread in this one. The Falcons have a solid offense, led by Michael Turner and Roddy White, and many are picking them to make the postseason.

Indianapolis 7 at Houston 34

Indianapolis at Houston ( no line ): This game does not have a point spread because it is unknown if Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will play. The Texans’ pass defense was awful last season, so if he does play, Manning could be in for a big day.

Buffalo 41 at Kansas City 7

Buffalo ( +6.5 ) at Kansas City: The Chiefs outperformed expectations last year, and with star tailback Jamaal Charles leading the way, the team looks to make a run at the playoffs this season. Buffalo’s chances don’t seem as good, as the team is short on playmakers.

Tennessee 14 at Jacksonville 16

Tennessee at Jacksonville ( no line ): There is no point spread on this game because of the question mark around running back Chris Johnson, who is holding out because he wants more money from the Titans. Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been dealing with a knee injury, so keep an eye on his status, as well, heading into this contest.

Cincinnati 27 at Cleveland 17

Cincinnati ( +6.5 ) at Cleveland: The Bengals will be underdogs in a ton of games this year after losing Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Carson Palmer from last year’s team. The Browns could be a sleeper if quarterback Colt McCoy can play well this season.

Philadelphia 31 at St. Louis 13

Philadelphia ( -4.5 ) at St. Louis: Eagles quarterback Michael Vick just signed a $100 million contract, and great expectations are on the team this season. The Rams should compete for the NFC West title with improving quarterback Sam Bradford and reliable running back Steven Jackson.

Pittsburgh 7 at Baltimore 35

Pittsburgh ( +2.5 ) at Baltimore: Here’s another good matchup between two AFC powers. Pittsburgh made the Super Bowl last season and both teams are expected to be in contention for the division title this season. As always, this could be a defensive battle.

Detroit 27 at Tampa Bay 20

Detroit ( +1.5 ) at Tampa Bay: The Buccaneers were one of the surprise teams last year, and the Lions are getting a lot of publicity as a possible sleeper this year. Detroit is counting on the health of quarterback Matt Stafford, who has talent but has been injury prone since entering the league.

Minnesota 17 at San Diego 24

Minnesota ( +9 ) at San Diego: The Chargers were burned by special teams miscues last season, but have the offensive firepower to have a special season. The Vikings are hoping new quarterback Donovan McNabb can get the team back to the postseason after faltering last season.

New York Giants 14 at Washington 28

New York Giants ( -3 ) at Washington: The Redskins are still trying to figure out if Rex Grossman or John Beck will be the quarterback, although neither will likely be a top-tier signal-caller. The Giants have a veteran group and expect to be in the postseason mix this season, led by quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Carolina 21 at Arizona 28

Carolina ( +7 ) at Arizona: Both teams have new quarterbacks, although the Cardinals are big favorites after the Panthers finished with the worst record in the league last season. Arizona’s new signal caller is Kevin Kolb, who was the Philadelphia backup last year, while Carolina’s starter is likely to be rookie Cam Newton, who was the No. 1 overall pick in April’s draft.

Seattle 17 at San Francisco 33

Seattle ( +6 ) at San Francisco: The NFC West looks to be extremely weak this season, and while neither of these teams look great, they could be in the mix for a playoff spot. The Seahawks will be integrating a new quarterback, likely Tarvaris Jackson, after letting Matt Hasselbeck leave in the offseason.

Dallas 24 at New York Jets 27

Dallas ( +4.5 ) at NY Jets: The Cowboys have high expectations after a down season, and quarterback Tony Romo is healthy again. The Jets made the AFC championship game last season and will once again count on one of the league’s top defenses.

Mon, Sep 12

New England 38 at Miami 24

New England ( -7 ) at Miami: The Patriots are a rare road favorite and a sizable one at that with quarterback Tom Brady leading the charge. The Dolphins brought in Reggie Bush to be their featured running back, and the job he does will be key.

Oakland 23 at Denver 20

Oakland ( +3 ) at Denver: After a competition, Kyle Orton was named the starting quarterback for the Broncos ahead of Tim Tebow. The Raiders got a breakout season from Darren McFadden last year and are expecting more of the same in 2011.
