NFL Football Betting Odds: With a rookie quarterback, and a second-year head coach, the Rams were one win away from reaching the NFL playoffs in 2010.

Sam Bradford played beyond his years in his first pro football season and Steve Spagnuolo squeezed orange juice out of lemons when it came to the talent he had on the field. St. Louis finished second in the NFC West with a 7-9 record while going 10-6 against the NFL Vegas odds spread.

With an offense that produced just 18.1 points per game it’s no surprise 10 of the Rams’ 16 games went ‘under’ the betting totals.

Bradford didn’t put up spectacular numbers mainly because he had no one to throw to. The team’s top receiver, Donnie Avery, was lost for the season in Week 1 and Laurent Robinson spent most of the year on injured reserve.

To beef up that side of the ball, St. Louis brass brought in one of the keenest offensive minds in football. Josh McDaniels may not know how to handle personnel, but he can sure light up the scoreboard.

McDaniels turned middle-of-the-road quarterbacks like Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton into passing machines. Bradford has as much talent in his pinkie toes as those guys do combined.

Avery will be back but the Rams went ahead and added another wideout during free agency by signing Mike Sims-Walker. He was Jacksonville’s leading man last season but has been labeled a diva with a Randy Moss-like attitude, meaning he plays when he feels like playing.

McDaniels can’t lose sight of the fact that he’s got one of the best running backs in the league at his disposal. He’s done that in the past but Stephen Jackson is too good to not get 20-plus carries a game.

Now that Spagnuolo has a capable coach running the offense, he can concentrate on his specialty. The Rams defense played above its head last season, holding opponents to just 20.5 points per contest – the NFL’s 12th-best average.

That side of the ball did lose O.J. Otogwe and the safety spots are still a concern, but teams shouldn’t look to run on the Rams often as they boast a strong front seven.

Oddsmakers have released a 7.5-game regular season win total for the Rams in 2011. This looks right on paper because nobody is sure how the wild West is going to play out. St. Louis has NFL Vegas odds to win Super Bowl XLVI at +3600. BookMaker release its futures odds to win the conference at +2100 and the division at +195.
