NFL Football Betting Odds: Brett Favre is gone but another veteran quarterback will be running the show in Minnesota this season.
The Vikings landed Donovan McNabb via a trade with Washington. He will provide stability at the position and should help improve Minnesota’s disappointing 6-10, last-place showing in 2010. The team went 5-11 against the spread and posted a 7-9 over/under NFL betting lines mark.
Leslie Frazier took over as head coach when Brad Childress was fired midseason. He is a defensive-oriented coach and brings back a wealth of talent on that side of the ball. The loss of Ray Edwards isn’t something to overlook, but the run defense should be solid again.
Frazier said the offense will run through Adrian Peterson – Minnesota’s workhorse tailback. Peterson had a down year by his standards in 2010 but still ran for 1,298 yards and 12 touchdowns. The offensive line lost Bryant McKinnie but swiped Charlie Johnson from the Colts and he is just as solid at left tackle.
Getting McNabb was huge for this team. He isn’t the Pro Bowl type of gunslinger he was during his tenure in Philadelphia, but the guy still knows how to win ballgames. McNabb should be able to minimize Minny’s -11 turnover ratio from last year, the worst in the NFC.
Unfortunately for the offense, it took a big hit when Sidney Rice left for the Seattle Seahawks. Now the Vikings don’t have that big, jump-ball type of receiver. Rice was money in the red zone.
The team signed Michael Jenkins (6-4, 217) but he is nothing more than a poor man’s Sidney Rice. He caught 41 passes for 505 yards and two touchdowns last season in Atlanta.
Percy Harvin is a playmaker but the migraines are a concern. He missed two games last season, and parts of others, because of migraines or injury. Minnesota must have Harvin on the field all season to contend in the loaded NFC North.
BookMaker released the Vikings NFL lines win total at 7.5, which is perplexing considering one Las Vegas sportsbook opened the number at 6.5. But the -150 juice tacked on the under essentially makes this a 7-game total.
Minnesota is 10th in strength of schedule going into the season so the road to success should be a bit easier than last year. Oddsmakers have given the Vikings NFL betting lines odds of +5500 to win Super Bowl XLVI and a +3100 price to win the conference. They are picked to finish last in the division, as evidenced by their odds to win of +975.
