NFL Football Betting Odds: Fans in the Windy City had reason to celebrate last year as the Bears took the North Division with a new quarterback and offensive coordinator.

The madman Mike Martz put Jay Cutler in his prolific offensive system and the two were harmonious. Chicago finished the 2010 campaign with an 11-5 mark. The Bears went 9-6-1 against the spread and posted a 7-9 NFL lines over/under record.

The Bears started the season 4-3 but went on to win seven of their last nine games. The progression proved that Martz’s method was legit and now that the offense has had a full season running the system, it should be even better in 2011.

But the change, and success, took time. The offensive line was in shambles the first half of the season. That unit ended up allowing the most sacks in the NFL, but it did perform better the second half. Mike Tice deserves a lot of credit for holding that group together.

One member of the front five that won’t be around this season is center Olin Kreutz. He started all 16 games last season and was an unquestioned leader on the team. Safety Chris Harris said releasing him might cause some anguish among the players.

“Olin Kreutz departure won’t sit well in the locker room for a few days.” Harris said. “He is the toughest player I’ve ever played with, and he’s the only guy I know who would play with a broken bone or multiple broken bones.”

Martz isn’t completely sold that his line is ready to protect Cutler in 2011, admitting during training camp that they would like to “have a couple more veteran linemen.”

The defense is solid as ever. Brian Urlacher and cohorts allowed the second-fewest points in the conference last year at 17.9 points per game.

Urlacher even said at one point during the year that he thought the defense they had was even better than the one that took Chicago to the Super Bowl in 2007. That’s scary considering the only reason the Bears were playing in that game was the defense.

They’re a year older, but this defense is still the Ravens of the NFC. You’re not going to run on the Bears, period.

There are high expectations in Chicago going into this season, but the oddsmakers expect a regression. BookMaker has positioned them with a NFL lines regular season win total of 8.5 games with an under juice of -125. A couple of Vegas shops opened the Bears win total at 9.5.

This decrease is due to the fact that the Bears reside in the same division as the defending world champion Packers. Detroit and Minnesota should also improve on their six-win seasons so the North will be competitive throughout.

Chicago’s odds to win the Super Bowl surfaced at +3600. The Bears aren’t the favorite to repeat as division winners with NFL lines odds of +400, and they have a +2100 price to win the conferernce. We project the team finishing second behind Green Bay in the division but missing out on a wild card berth with a 9-7 record.
