The arms and legs of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton have proven themselves to be among the NFL's best. Now, the question from those who partake in NFL betting lines action is, "Does Cam have the shoulders to carry Carolina to the playoffs this season?"
Newton has been dynamic during his first two professional seasons, but unlike his peers among the game's young QBs like Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick, the Panthers haven't reached the playoffs with him under center. Given his terrific running ability and strong throwing arm, it is only a matter of time before the team takes that next step. In two professional seasons, Newton has accounted for 66 total touchdowns, and appears to only be getting better.
The 1-2 running back punch of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams adds to the dangerous Panthers offense. Add in playmaking wideout Steve Smith and versatile tight end Greg Olsen, and it's easy to see why defenses can't focus all their attention on Newton.
Football bettors want to see the Carolina defense join the offense as one of the league's top units. The Panthers played well at times last year, but playing in a division with Drew Brees and Matt Ryan will cause problems for any team. After using three of their first four draft choices on defensive players, the Panthers are optimistic they'll have the bodies to slow down those high-powered attacks on a more consistent basis in 2013.
The star of the defense is, like Newton, a recent Panthers first-round pick. Middle linebacker Luke Kuechly stepped in last season as a rookie and took immediate control, leading the NFL in tackles with 164. He will once again anchor this unit, though the additions of some key veterans in free agency will be helpful as well adding depth to the Carolina defense.
With the teams' future betting line set at 7½, it appears that Las Vegas sees minimal improvement, if any, from a Panthers team that went 7-9 a year ago. NFL bettors should be smarter than that. With Newton and Kuechly each just entering their prime, there is a good chance this team can challenge for an NFC wild card spot this coming season.

Football Betting - How to bet on the Carolina Panthers
The betting line is a posted number that the Sportsbook sets for each football game. Bookmakers post odds on who they think will win the game. The betting line will usually show a favorite and an underdog.
The Point Spread is one of the most popular wagers in NFL Football betting. You need to cover the Point Spread to win your wager. For example the Favorite in this game is the Carolina Panthers as they have a point spread of -3. For you to win your wager, the Carolina Panthers would need to have a final score beating the New York Giants by 4 or more points. The (-110) in brackets is the "juice" or "vig" on the wager. The Underdog in the point spread is the New York Giants +3. For you to win your wager the NY Giants could lose the game by 2 points or less.
The example below will show what an NFL betting line looks like:
- New York Giants +3 (-110)
- Carolina Panthers -3 (-110)
There are also money lines, in which you are picking who you think will win the game straight up. For example:
- New York Giants +140
- Carolina Panthers -160
In this example the New York Giants are the underdog. The +140 means that for every $100 you wager you will win $140. The favorite in this example is the Carolina Panthers denoted by the -160. You have to risk $160 to win $100.
Betting on NFL Totals
- New York giants/Carolina Panthers Total 33O (-110)
- new York Giants/Carolina Panthers Total 33U (-110)
A Total Wager is a bet on the OVER/UNDER for the Total Score at the end of the game, for both teams combined. In this betting line the TOTAL is 33 (-110). For you to WIN the OVER TOTAL wager the final score would have to be 34 points or more, combined for both teams. If the TOTAL score is exactly 33 then the wager would be graded a PUSH and your wager would be returned to you.
The NFL betting line in the above example is for the full game. An NFL betting line can also be posted for 1st Quarters(1Q), 1st Half(1H) and 2ND Half(2H).

NFL Odds - Spread Movements for Week 14 of the Regular Season
