Online College Football Betting Odds - The University of Nebraska has one of the most successful and historic college football programs in the country.

The Cornhuskers compete at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and play in the Legends Division of the Big Ten Conference. The team mascot is often shortened to the Huskers.

Nebraska began play in 1890 and has compiled an overall record of 837-344-40. Only six teams in the FBS have accrued more than 800 wins in school history and Nebraska’s victory total ranks fourth all-time. Over the last 50 years, Nebraska has been the winningest team in terms of winning percentage and total wins.

During their prolific history, the Huskers have captured five national championships and 43 conference titles. They have appeared in 47 bowl games, winning 24, and have had three Heisman Trophy winners.

Nebraska plays home games at Memorial Stadium, which has a FieldTurf playing surface and is located on campus in Lincoln. The venue has a seating capacity 81,067 and has sold out an NCAA record 311 consecutive games dating back to 1962.

The University of Nebraska appeared destined for greatness out of the gate. During its first 28 years in existence, the football team endured just one losing season.

Eddie Robinson and Fielding H. Yost were the first Cornhusker coaches to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Another Hall member, Dana X. Bible, coached from 1929 to 1936 and led the team to six conference championships. Biff Jones took over from 1937 to 1941 and took the Huskers to their first bowl game – a loss to Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

Following World War II the program fell into a state of mediocrity until 1962 when Bob Devaney took over as head coach. He would guide the team for the next 11 seasons, compiling a 101-20-2 record. Nebraska would win its first two national championships and start a streak of 40 straight winning seasons under Devaney.

Devaney stepped down following the 1972 season and assumed the role of the school’s athletic director. Tom Osborne, who served as the offensive coordinator on Devaney’s staff, took controls and subsequently became Nebraska's longest-tenured and all-time winningest coach.

Osborne never won fewer than nine games during his 25-year tenure. The Huskers won back-to-back national titles in 1994 and 1995 and posted a ridiculous 60-3 record from 1993 to 1997. Osborne claimed thirteen conference titles and three national championships while going 255-49-3 as head coach.

Frank Solich and Tom Callahan would succeed Osborne from 1998 until 2008. A year earlier, the Huskers lost five straight games under Callahan so the AD was fired and Osborne took over. His first order of business following that fruitless year was finding a new head coach.

Osborne hired Bo Pelini in 2008 and he enters his fourth season with the university in 2011. Pelini, formerly a defensive coordinator under Solich, has fielded a formidable defense during his time including the top-ranked unit nationally in 2009.

The Nebraska football club had been a member of four different conferences since its inception in 1890. It was part of the Big 12 for more than 100 years, but on June 11, 2010 the school announced it would be leaving to join the Big Ten Conference beginning in 2011.

The move effectively ended the rivalry between Nebraska and Oklahoma. In the Big Eight, these two teams won or shared the conference title 71 times during its 89-year history. The Sooners and Huskers also competed in many pivotal and championship-deciding contests in the Big 12.

The Cornhuskers have had 53 consensus All-Americans during their history. The three Heisman Trophy winners from Nebraska are Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch.
