Online College Football Betting Odds - Louisiana State University first competed in collegiate football in 1893.

LSU currently plays at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and is a member of the West Division of the Southeastern Conference. The team’s mascot is the Tigers but they are also affectionately called the Fighting Tigers or Bayou Bengals by fans and media.

LSU has accrued an overall win-loss-tie record of 721-389-47 during its fabled history. The team’s victory total is 12th in the NCAA annals and its winning percentage ranks 14th on the all-time list. The Tigers have won three national championships, 13 conference crowns, seven division titles and 23 bowl games (43 appearances).

LSU plays home games at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The natural-grass venue has a capacity of 92,542.

The LSU football program spawned as an independent in 1893 and stayed that way until 1896 when it joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Tigers would remain in that sector of college football until moving to the Southern Conference in 1922. They won the conference title in 1932 and then joined the Southeastern Conference the following season.

There are ample memorable moments in LSU’s rich history. One classic account came in the 1966 Cotton Bowl. Longtime rival Arkansas came into the contest riding a 22-game winning streak but the Tigers snapped the run with a 14-7 victory.

Another lauded affair in the LSU chronicles is the 1982 bout between LSU and Alabama. It was coach Paul "Bear" Bryant’s final game against the Tigers and the visitors pulled off a 20-10 upset in Tuscaloosa. Bryant told the media that his team received "an old-fashioned butt-whipping" after failing to register more than 80 total yards, which still stands as the lowest offensive production in Crimson Tide history.

In 2002, the "Bluegrass Miracle" provided college football blooper shows a highlight for the ages. LSU stood at its own 25-yard line and trailed Kentucky by three points with four seconds left. Tigers quarterback Marcus Randall hit Devery Henderson with a 25-yard pass over the middle. Assuming he would be tackled, Wildcat fans rushed the field celebrating the upset and even tore down one goal post. But Henderson raced to the end zone to pull of the miraculous 33-30 victory.

LSU’s first of three national championships came in 1958 when it defeated Clemson, 7-0, in the Sugar Bowl. That team was coached by Paul Dietzel.

The Tigers became the first team to win two national titles in the BCS era after claiming championships in 2003 and 2007. They beat Oklahoma 21-14 in the 2004 Sugar Bowl under head coach Nick Saban and won the 2008 BCS National Championship Game versus Ohio State with Les Miles at the helm.

Miles is the current head man of the program but has drawn the ire of critics in recent years. He has had multiple clock-management issues that have nearly cost LSU pivotal wins.

The Tigers’ oldest rival is Tulane, although the rivalry has been largely one-sided since 1950. The inaugural LSU-Tulane football game was played in 1893 and the teams competed in the "Battle for the Rag" with annual games from 1919 to 1994. Since 1949, LSU has a 45-4-2 edge in the all-time series.

LSU and Arkansas hold a heated rivalry. The two teams play annually the day after Thanksgiving is what is known as the battle for the Golden Boot.

LSU and Ole Miss also compete annually for a trophy. These squads normally meet in the second to last regular season game and the winner of the contest claims the "Magnolia Bowl" hardware.

Only one player in LSU history has won the Heisman Trophy. Quarterback Billy Cannon, who led the Tigers to their first national title in 1958, was awarded the bronze statue a year later.
