Online College Football Betting Odds - Auburn University began playing college football in 1892. The Tigers currently compete at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and play in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference.

Auburn has compiled a win-loss-tie record of 710-400-47 during its 119-year history. The team is the 13th most-winningest program in NCAA football. The Tigers have a pair of national championships, 11 conference titles and 21 bowl victories (36 appearances) on their career resume.

Auburn hosts home games at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which seats 87,451 and is located on campus.

The Tigers history started with nine different coaches over a 12-year stretch. The most iconic of these was John Heisman who coached from 1895 until 1899. Auburn won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference championship, its first, in 1900 under coach Billy Watkins.

During the late 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, Auburn fell in a state of futility. There were nine different head coaches during a 28-year period and the only time it won its second conference title was in 1932.

The Tigers, along with 12 other programs, left the Southern Conference to forge the Southeastern Conference in 1933. Their first bowl appearance came in 1936 where they played Villanova in Havana, Cuba. The Bacardi Bowl ended in a 7-7 draw.

After the team went 0-10 in 1950, school brass brought in Ralph "Shug" Jordan. He would become Auburn’s all-time winningest coach with a 176-83-7 record.

Jordan’s 1957 squad completed a perfect 10-0 season which provided Auburn with its first SEC title and first Associated Press National Championship. Under Jordan, the Tigers would advance to seven straight postseason bowls starting in 1968.

Pat Dye took over in 1981 and the following year he started another bowl streak of nine straight postseason appearances. The most infamous game he coached was the 1982 Iron Bowl that was dubbed by the media the "Bo Over the Top" game. Star running back Bo Jackson secured a last-second victory by hurling himself over the top of a pile of players from the one yard line.

The Tigers faithful feel their team has been cheated out of two national championships.

In 1993, the team went 11-0 but was unable to compete for the title because of a two-year postseason ban due to recruiting violations. The Tigers were named national champs by the National Championship Foundation but not an accredited media outlet.

In 2004, Tommy Tuberville helped the program complet a 13-0 campaign and win the SEC Championship. But Auburn was not included in the BCS National Championship matchup because USC and Oklahoma, both of which also went undefeated, were ranked higher in preseason polls.

Gene Chizik was named head coach in December of 2008. He armed himself with a revamped coaching staff which included offensive guru Gus Malzahn. The staff landed a top 5 recruiting class in 2010.

With marquee players like quarterback Cam Newton, running back Mike Dyer and defensive tackle Nick Fairley, the Tigers went 12-0 during the regular season and defeated South Carolina in the conference championship. They went on to beat Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game, 22-19, to capture their second school title.

Prior to that contest, Newton joined two other Auburn players by being named the Heisman Trophy winner. Pat Sullivan took home the bronze hardware in 1971 and Bo Jackson followed in 1985.

Auburn’s biggest rival is the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both schools are based in the state of Alabama and compete annually in the Iron Bowl. The outcome of the heated rivalry gives bragging rights to the fans of the winner.
