Online College Football Betting Odds – Arkansas lost an offensive genius when the university fired Coach Bobby Petrino with cause because of his off-the-field conduct in April. The Razorbacks still finished spring drills with an offense to be envied, and with a Petrino overseeing the potent attack. That would be offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, who knows his brother's system as his own and called plays at Illinois for the past two seasons.

Paul now answers to interim head coach John L Smith, who was Arkansas' positively energetic special teams coach from 2009-2011. He left to be head coach at Weber State before being called back to the Razorback Nation.

Although the Hogs won't miss Bobby Petrino's baggage, they are bound to miss his offensive mind and his tone-setting work ethic. Fan expectations of competing for a national championship still soar, even with Petrino gone. The defense showed some strength at last year's Cotton Bowl, but that unit must keep improving for the Razorbacks to crack through the LSU/Alabama barrier.

HISTORY OF ARKANSAS FOOTBALL: The Razorbacks have won one national championship, 13 conference titles and 12 bowl games (38 appearances). The Hogs host home games at two different venues. Ten regular season games are played at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, where the campus is located. Two games are played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Arkansas was first a member of the Southwest Conference in 1915. The Razorbacks didn't win the SWC until 1936. They captured the title again in 1946 and played LSU in the Cotton Bowl Classic at the end of the season. This game ended in a 0-0 deadlock and is referred to as the "Ice Bowl." Frank Broyles, the school's most notable coach, led the team from 1958 to 1976. During his 19-year tenure, Arkansas would compete for multiple conference championship and win the national championship in 1964 after an undefeated season. The title is somewhat controversial, however, as the Associated Press awarded its championship trophy to Alabama.

Lou Holtz took over the program from 1977 to 1983. He ran a conservative, option offense which helped the Razorbacks reach six straight bowls and capture one conference co-title. In 1992, Broyles, who was the Athletic Director by this point, moved Arkansas' sports programs from the fledging SWC to the flourishing SEC. The SWC would be defunct by 1996.

The charismatic Houston Nutt was head coach in Fayetteville from 1998 until 2007. Nutt recruited elite players from the South including current starting NFL running backs Darren McFadden, Peyton Hills and Felix Jones, but was often criticized for questionable play-calling. Nutt took eight of his 10 teams to bowl games and compiled at 75-48 record during 10 years at Arkansas.

Bobby Petrino took over the helm from 2008-2011 before being fired this past off-season. John L. Smith takes over this year as an interim head coach.
