Online College Football Betting Odds - The University of Arkansas began playing football in 1894.

The Razorbacks currently compete at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and play in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference. A common nickname associated with the program is "The Hogs."

Arkansas has accrued an overall win-loss-tie record of 667-450-40 during its 117-year history. The program ranks 23rd on college football's all-time winningest list. The Razorbacks have won one national championship, 13 conference titles and 12 bowl games (38 appearances).

The Hogs host home games at two different venues. Ten regular season games are played at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, where the campus is located. Two games are played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Prior to the 1909 campaign, the Razorbacks were called the Cardinals. The moniker changed after that season when coach Hugo Bezdek led the team to a flawless 7-0 record that included wins over perennial powerhouses such as Oklahoma and LSU.

During the season, Bezdek told the media that his squad played "like a wild band of razorback hogs." The name was officially changed before the 1910 season. Razorback fans have embraced the beast and installed game traditions surrounding the mascot.

"Calling the Hogs" is a chant used before every kickoff. Fans raise their arms and flutter their fingers while cheering, "Woo, Pig, Sooie!" three times in succession.

Arkansas was first a member of the Southwest Conference in 1915. The Razorbacks didn’t win the SWC until 1936. They captured the title again in 1946 and played LSU in the Cotton Bowl Classic at the end of the season. This game ended in a 0-0 deadlock and is referred to as the "Ice Bowl."

Frank Broyles, the school’s most notable coach, led the team from 1958 to 1976. During his 19-year tenure, Arkansas would compete for multiple conference championship and win the national championship in 1964 after an undefeated season. The title is somewhat controversial, however, as the Associated Press awarded its championship trophy to Alabama.

Lou Holtz took over the program from 1977 to 1983. He ran a conservative, option offense which helped the Razorbacks reach six straight bowls and capture one conference co-title.

In 1992, Broyles, who was the Athletic Director by this point, moved Arkansas’ sports programs from the fledging SWC to the flourishing SEC. The SWC would be defunct by 1996.

The charismatic Houston Nutt was head coach in Fayetteville from 1998 until 2007. Nutt recruited elite players from the South including current starting NFL running backs Darren McFadden, Peyton Hills and Felix Jones, but was often criticized for questionable play-calling. Nutt took eight of his 10 teams to bowl games and compiled at 75-48 record during 10 years at Arkansas.

Michael Vick’s jail sentence directly led to the hiring of the Hogs next head man. After Vick was booted from the NFL for illegal dog fighting, Bobby Petrino abandoned his position as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons to sign a contract with Arkansas.

Petrino was a highly-successful collegiate coach at Louisville. With Ryan Mallet under center, Petrino led the Razorbacks to a 10-2 record in 2010 and a BCS bowl berth. They lost to Ohio State 31-26 in the Sugar Bowl.

Arkansas has a long-standing rivalry with the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is the closest SEC school to Fayetteville in terms of distance and Arkansas has played the Rebels more times than any other conference opponent.

The rivalry somewhat dissipated in recent years but it was renewed after Nutt was hired as the Ole Miss head coach in 2009.

LSU and Arkansas also hold a heated rivalry. The two teams play annually the day after Thanksgiving is what is known as the battle for the Golden Boot.
