Online College Football Betting Odds - The University of Alabama is one of the most recognized and prolific programs in the history of college football.

The Crimson Tide compete at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and play in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference. The team is often called Alabama or just ‘Bama.

Alabama began play in 1892 and has compiled an overall win-loss-tie record of 802-319-43. During their rich history, the Tide have captured 13 national championships, 26 conference titles and 33 bowls (58 appearances). The school shows up in the NCAA record annals for the most 10-win seasons (31), 10-game win streaks (22) and total seasons with a 10-0 start (16).

Alabama plays home games at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which has natural grass and is located on campus in Tuscaloosa. The venue has seating for 101,821, which makes it the fifth-largest non-racing stadium in the United States.

There have been 27 different head coaches that have directed the Crimson Tide program, three of which were inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Wallace Wade was the first of the trio of iconic ‘Bama coaches. He took over in 1923 and led the Tide to a Rose Bowl victory over Washington, claiming the school’s first national title. That storied contest has been called "the game that changed the South."

Frank Thomas replaced Wade in 1931 and finished his 14-year tenure at the school with a pair of championship rings.

The third, and most famous, Hall of Fame coach from Alabama was Paul "Bear" Bryant. He oversaw the football team from 1958 to 1982, leading it to six national championships, 13 SEC crowns, 24 straight postseason appearances and 11 bowl victories.

Bryant had two remarkable coaching stretches. Between 1961 and 1966, Alabama went 60-5-1, which included three national championships. Then from 1970 to 1979, he led the Tide to eight conference titles and three more national championships. Overall, Bryant went 232-46-9 at the university.

After a decade of mediocrity, Gene Stallings took the Tide back to the national title game in 1993. They faced quarterback Gino Torretta and the Miami Hurricanes, which had won 29 straight games, as 8-point underdogs in the Sugar Bowl. Alabama pulled off the huge upset after winning 34-13, and captured its 12th national championship.

The current head coach is Nick Saban. The team strung together back-to-back 12-0 regular seasons in 2008 and 2009 under him. It went on to win the BCS National Championship the second season, defeating Texas 37-21.

Alabama’s biggest rival is the Auburn Tigers. Because both schools are based in the state so the outcome of the annual game provides bragging rights to the fans of the winner.

LSU has also become a heated rival after Saban coached there from 2000 to 2004. He and Pop Warner are the only college football coaches to win a national championship at two different FBS schools.

The Tide have seen 98 players selected to the All-America first team, 47 of which were consensus picks. That list includes lauded players like Cornelius Bennett, Woodrow Love, Steve Sloan, Ken Stabler, Bart Starr and Joe Namath.

Mark Ingram became the first player from Alabama to be honored as the Heisman Trohpy Award winner. He garnered the distinction in 2009 after compiling 1,678 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns.
