SMU 28 VS PITTSBURGH 6
2012 BBVA Compass Bowl Winner - SMU routs Pitt to capture BBVA Compass Bowl
SMU has not lost this season when it scores first or puts up at least 21 points.
The Mustangs were quick to check off both benchmarks to give coach June Jones his 100th collegiate win.
SMU put up three first-quarter touchdowns, including scoring runs and passes by J.J. McDermott, to beat Pittsburgh 28-6 Saturday in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
Rishaad Wimbley ran for two scores for SMU (8-5), which tied a school record by playing in its third straight bowl under Jones. Before Jones' arrival in in 2008, SMU had played in the postseason since beating Notre Dame in the 1984 Aloha Bowl.
McDermott completed 16 of 26 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown, to Darius Johnson early in the first.
Pittsburgh (6-7) was held without a first down and fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter. Kevin Harper kicked field goals of 32 and 34 yards.
The Panthers were coached by defensive coordinator Keith Patterson, who took over after Todd Graham left to coach at Arizona State. It was Patterson last game before he starts his new job as the defensive coordinator at Arkansas State.
Pittsburgh's newly hired coach, former Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst, flew into Birmingham on Saturday and watched the game from the press box level.
Chryst visited with Pitt alumni and fans before the game. He said he wanted to maintain a respectful distance from the team until the game ended, signaling the start of his era.
Chryst said he has "a lot of appreciation for how they're finishing things out" after Graham's unexpected exit.
McDermott beat Pitt's blitz when lobbed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Johnson for the Mustangs' first touchdown.
Johnson had seven catches for 120 yards and was named the game's MVP. The 50-yard catch was the longest in the six-year history of the bowl.

College football Betting Online: Once we get to a certain number of College Bowl Games, there are some that I will nicely call Scrub Bowls or how about the BBVA Compass Bowl Gambling Group. The meeting of these 50 percent people is a later one on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Birmingham, Alabama at Legion Field. I doubt there will be any talent scouts at this one, but you will probably be watching it at home on ESPN around 1:00 p.m. ET like the rest of us. Don’t forget to check your BookMaker numbers before you make those Sportsbook Bets.
Compass Bowl Betting Online: The SMU Mustangs (7-5) will try to make the Pittsburgh Panthers (6-6) official losers by going under .500 winning percentage. Let’s just call 50% a losing percentage too ok.

The sixth annual BBVA Compass Bowl Gambling retreat has repeat winner Pittsburgh from last year coming back for another easy win. Pittsburgh probably figures if a bowl would take them at a 6-6 record, they would probably take somebody that may be as sorry as they are this year. Well, they’re right, so it’s a battle of mediocrity people.
Birmingham is a city that wanted postseason and postseason is what they got as early as 1947 with the Dixie Bowl hosting three bowl games along with some Conference Championships for the Southeastern Conference. The city went bone dry with no postseason (like water around here) from 1994 until December 23, 2006 when South Florida and East Carolina were the two teams saving these postseason-starved
Last year’s game had a decent attendance of 41,207, but more importantly the Economic Impact of the BBVA Compass Bowl was $11.9 million. In January of 2010, the revenue generated for the Economy here was more than 1.5 times as much as last year when UConn beat South Carolina 20-7. I guess that almost justifies having crappy teams play stinky teams with the winner basking in what I will call a cranky (get it-crappy, stinky combined) fog, or as they call it, BBVA Compass Bowl Gambling.
Pittsburgh is led by first year head coach Todd Graham, a coach used to winning bowl games with a 3-0 College Bowl record at the school he dumped for more money (typical just like the thug pro players) Tulsa. He brought mediocrity to new heights compiling a 36-7 record as a Golden Hurricane.
Pittsburgh Panthers (6-6) vs. SMU Mustangs (7-5)
June Jones is trying to turn SMU into champions, and I can understand his problem. SMU is not much of an athletic school, but I recall when Jones was crackin’ the whip at Hawaii and getting results. He even tasted BCS glory in 2007 when he led the Warriors to a Sugar Bowl (YUM, SUGAR) and coached in the NFL before that. Graham will never have a resume like that, believe me.
The most points ever scored by a team in this BBVA Compass Bowl Is 31 by Cincinnati in 2007, so DON’T drink the water. That is the only logical conclusion (WAIT, maybe these teams are all 50% winners which makes them losers which makes it hard to score) that I can come up with to explain lame offense.
I believe that leads me right into my advice for all of you BookMaker Sportsbook players. Bet the Compass Bowl UNDER even if it goes down to 36, but it won’t – TRUST ME, I’m a mathematician. I would also suggest you check BookMaker for their updated and new lines constantly coming out and going down.

2011 Compass Bowl - Panthers drop Wildcats for win dedicated to former coach Dave Wannstedt
Pittsburgh players dumped the cooler full of sports drink on Phil Bennett.
They hoped Dave Wannstedt, watching on TV in Naples, Fla., also felt an affectionate chill.
Pittsburgh scored touchdowns off two mistakes by Kentucky's punting team and the Panthers, playing for their former coach, beat the Wildcats 27-10 in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday.
Pittsburgh players dedicated the win to Wannstedt, who was forced to resign following a disappointing regular season.
