SAN DIEGO STATE 30 vs LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 32

2011 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Winner - Ragin Cajun’s Miracle Comeback

If you changed the channel and didn’t watch the last 15 seconds of the game, be sure to catch the replay. In what can be called one of the most amazing finishes in Cajuns football history (including the win over Texas A&M in the 90's), Brett Baer’s first 50 yard field goal gave the Cajuns it’s first Bowl victory in the history of the university’s program.

Soon, we’ll have posted the call from Jay Walker to one of the most phenomenal comebacks since their final home game performance this season.

Brett Baer’s 50-yard field goal as time expired lifted Louisiana to a 32-30 victory over San Diego State Saturday evening in the 2011 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in front of a record crowd of 42,841.

Trailing 30-29 with 35 seconds remaining, Blaine Gautier capped off a record-setting performance of 470 yards passing by directing Louisiana (9-4) into SDSU territory for Baer’s game clincher.

Starting at the UL 18, Gautier completed back-to-back passes to Javone Lawson that covered 39 yards and moved the Cajuns to the SDSU 43.

Gautier found Harry Peoples on the sideline for five yards to the SDSU 38 to move into the 50-yard field goal range, then a five-yard penalty against the Aztecs (8-5) moved Baer and the Cajuns a little closer to victory.

Baer successfully converted the 50-yard field goal as time expired – his first career 50-yard field goal make – to give UL its first nine-win season since 1976.

The inaugural game for the New Orleans Bowl was 2001, and this is one of the best venues and areas for any large event, especially for major football games with Bowl on the end of the title, Super Bowl, Sugar Bowl, R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Betting…..

This area along with the people that seem to make these events special are what makes this area work so well. The organization and availability of lodging, restaurants and activities in the area seem to always be top notch, top notch.

The estimated Economic Impact from the New Orleans Bowl is around $15,000,000, but I am going to say that is higher this year due to the Cajuns and excitement surrounding their 41 year drought ending.

Some of the facts that I think are interesting for you to know:

Louisiana leads the nation with 90% of the crawfish we suck down from there

Louisiana is the leader nationally in hard and soft-shell crab production

Louisiana ships more live crabs to the markets on the Atlantic Coast (take that ACC)

If you’re a Ragin’ Cajun, then this is a happy day. Actually, if you’re a Ragin’ Cajun, every day is a happy day! The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are in as the Sun Belt conference representative this year. This couldn’t work out better where this will seem like a home game for these Ragers.

This is even more impressive than I’m conveying here (or rambling.) This is the first time they will have a bowl appearance for 41 years. That must seem like dog years to these poor Cajun fellas as long as that has been.

This is a night game, so you have plenty of time to make your college football betting picks at your favorite Sportsbook, BookMaker, and don’t forget the jambalaya and gumbo…Dumbo!

2010 New Orleans Bowl - Corey Robinson, Troy rout Ohio in New Orleans Bowl

Corey Robinson punctuated a formidable freshman season by helping Troy rewrite the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl record books.

Robinson threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns, and Troy set a New Orleans Bowl scoring record with a 48-21 victory over Ohio on Saturday night.

Robinson completed 23 of 29 passes for 285 yards and four TDs in the first half alone, when Troy (8-5) raced to a 38-7 lead, and was 32 of 42 overall. While Robinson was chosen the game's MVP, he was quick to credit his experienced receivers, who made Ohio regret trying to cover them man-to-man.
