NFL Betting Online: Going into the 2010 season, just like Dallas in the NFC, San Diego was one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. And just like Dallas, the Chargers failed to reach the playoffs.

After capturing four consecutive AFC West titles the Bolts blundered out of the gate last year, going 2-5 in the first seven games. And after Mike Tolbert had a breakout year with rookie Ryan Mathews hampered by injury, it sounds like Turner is going to utilize a two-back system in 2011.

"I think the emergence of Tolbert gives us a chance to have a one-two punch," said Turner. "Tolbert gives us a nice changeup. Obviously he’s a physical, hard-to-tackle, punishing runner and Ryan has great speed, so it’s a good situation."

The defense will be under the direction of new coordinator Greg Manusky. San Diego was able to keep Eric Weddle and if Bob Sanders can stay healthy, they will forge one of the best safety tandems in the NFL.

Shaun Phillips recorded 11.0 sacks from his outside linebacker spot in the 3-4 defense last season. Takeo Spikes joins that front seven that tied for second in the league last season with 47.0 sacks.

With a population of more than one million, San Diego is the largest U.S. city to have never won a major sports championship. The curse has plagued the Chargers and Padres for a half century. But that hasn’t prevented oddsmakers from making them one of the top 5 favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2011. They have NFL odds of +990 to win the championship.

San Diego’s regular season win total opened at 10 and hasn’t budged one way or the other. The team has NFL online odds of +550 to win the AFC and is the overwhelming favorite, again, to win the division with a -225 price.
