NFL Betting Online: The Raiders finally started showing signs of promise during the 2010 campaign, which of course prompted the kooky Al Davis to disrupt that maturation.

The senile owner fired head coach Tom Cable and let the best defender in the league walk out the door. Oddsmakers expect the loss of Nnamdi Asomugha to cost Oakland one game in the win column this season. BookMaker opened the Raiders NFL betting lines regular season win total at 7. Sharp bettors hammered the under early, pushing that side of the juice up to -145.

Perhaps even more impressive than going 8-8 last season was the fact that the Raiders went undefeated (6-0) in the AFC West. They finished with a 9-7 record against the spread and posted a 10-6 over/under NFL lines mark.

You might say this is a team on the rise, but there’s just no way to predict how some of the new moving parts will perform. Hue Jackson was with the team last year so the players won’t have to adjust to a new personality at head coach.

The biggest question mark again comes at the quarterback position. Bruce Gradkowski wrestled away the starting spot from Jason Campbell last season. But then he got hurt and Campbell was inserted back into the lineup. Gradkowski is gone so Trent Edwards becomes the only guy battling Campbell for the job.

Both of those players would be backups on most teams. Campbell misses his target far too often. And he doesn’t have the luxury of throwing to Pro Bowlers with Louis Murphy and Jacoby Ford listed as the starting wideouts.

Zach Miller will also be missed as a reliable pass-catching tight end. Kevin Boss was brought in to replace him but he’s a significant dropoff in talent.

The running game in Oakland was strong last year behind Darren McFadden and Michael Bush, ranking second in the league with an average of 155.9 rushing yards a game. But the offensive line lost three starters in free agency and it wasn’t replenished with quality players. It appears Jackson is trending toward less of a zone-blocking run scheme.

Although the Raiders lost the best cover cornerback in the game, the defense should be pretty salty this season, particularly the front seven.

Oakland recorded the second-highest sack total in the NFL last season with 47.0. Linebacker Rolando McClain had 85.0 tackles his rookie season and that should balloon to triple digits in 2011.

Concerns about Davis’ ability to run an organization have grown loud the last handful of years. He makes head-scratching trades and looks for the fastest guy on the draft board each year (didn’t work out too well with Darius Heyward-Bey). Until Mr. Davis bites the big one, the Raiders may be stuck in mediocrity limbo.

BookMaker sent out NFL betting lines odds of +4500 for Oakland to win Super Bowl XLVI in February. The Raiders have a +2500 price to win the AFC and are picked to finish third in the West Division behind San Diego and Kansas City with odds of +525.
