NFL Betting Online: Rex Ryan hasn’t made any championship declarations yet, but there’s still a month to go before the 2011 National Football League season begins and this guy’s got a big mouth.

The Jets went 11-5 last season, finishing second in the AFC East behind New England. They finished 9-7 against the NFL betting odds spread and posted a profitable 12-4 over/under record.

There’s no question Ryan has turned New York around with back-to-back AFC Championship appearances, but he really needs to prevent poop from falling from his lips. He writes checks the team can’t cash and puts a bull’s eye on its back with his ultra-bravado attitude.

The defense will be superior again, but the offense is still lacking. And it all starts with the quarterback.

Mark Sanchez is holding this team back. He improved somewhat in his second year but he’s never going to be an elite quarterback. We see him plateauing at the Trent Dilfer level. The skill set isn’t there, just another overrated USC signal caller.

Almost trying to force-feed Sanchez success, the Jets got away from the ground game that was so dominant in 2009. It appears they will recommit to the run in 2011.

"I'm thinking the plan is you're going to get a heavy dose of Shonn Greene," Ryan said.

Running backs coach Anthony Lynn added that they plan to give Greene 300-plus carries this year. He only had 185 last season. LaDainian Tomlinson is aging quickly so if Greene gets hurt the Jets are in trouble.

The Jets did pick up a couple of decent free agents in receivers Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason. These two veterans, along with the recently re-signed Santonio Holmes, will give New York its best crop of receivers in quite some time.

Playing in the competitive East Division hasn’t done the Jets any favors as they have the third-hardest strength of schedule. Outside of their division foes, they host Dallas, New York and San Diego while facing Philadelphia and Baltimore on the road. Their NFL odds regular season win total is set at 10 games.

New York is picked to finish second in the East behind the Patriots, evidenced by its NFL betting odds of +130 at BookMaker. The team’s odds to win the conference at +520 seem too low, but then again, it has been to the championship game the last two seasons. The Jets carry a +1500 price to win Super Bowl XLVI.
