NFL Betting Online: No team made more noise during the free agency period than Philadelphia, but the Patriots finished second. Yet they’re leading the odds race to win Super Bowl XLVI.

After a 14-2 campaign last year (10-5-1 ATS), New England endured an early playoff exit as the rival Jets came to Foxboro and won 28-21 as 9.5-point underdogs. But the Pats are the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2011, holding NFL football odds of +310.

The defending champion Packers opened as the Super Bowl favorite but the offseason moves Robert Kraft and team brass made shifted the odds in a one-week span.

Bill Belichick continued his method of corralling veteran misfits by adding Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth to the roster. Both players have said they will go about business the Patriot Way.

Haynesworth took a significant pay cut to join Belichick’s army. Tight end Aaron Hernandez relinquished his No. 85 to Ochocinco because he said the receiver "deserved it."

So far so good with the drama queens but we’re not even through training camp yet. The best way to fix a bad attitude is winning, and they've been doing that for years in Foxboro.

Last year, Tom Brady and the offense operated at the 2007 level. The two rookie tight ends contributed significantly while BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead spearheaded a versatile ground attack.

New England’s dinking and dunking gameplan allowed the offense to convert 48.2 percent of its third-down opportunities in 2010.

Defensively, the Patriots were essentially rebuilding. But despite having a fairly young secondary and linebacker corps they ranked first in turnover margin last year at plus-28. The prolific offense and inexperience defense helped produce an NFL odds over/under mark of 13-3 last year.

Belichick’s traditional 3-4 defense will probably be more of a hybrid 4-3 scheme this year with Haynesworth in the mix. The Pats also landed Shaun Ellis, who’s recorded at least 4.5 sacks in every season since 2005, and those two alongside Vince Wilfork will form a formidable defensive line.

When BookMaker released the Patriots’ regular season win total at 11.5, the juice was weighted toward the under at -125. That flip-flopped following the free agent frenzy.

New England is picked to win the AFC with NFL football odds of +235. The Pats are the odds-on favorite to take their division at -175.
