NFL Betting Online: This is the last stand for Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio – produce a playoff team or find another job.

And quarterback David Garrard looks to be facing a similar ultimatum. The Jaguars took Blaine Gabbert with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft and a slow start could have him under center sooner than later.

The Jags finished second in the South last season with an 8-8 record. They went 9-7 against the spread and posted a 12-4 over/under mark at the NFL football odds wagering window.

This was a great over team to bet on because Jacksonville’s secondary couldn’t prevent a remote-controlled airplane from hitting its target.

After allowing more than 250 yards per game through the air, the back end of the defense needed to be addressed, but it wasn’t. The only addition the Jags made was signing Dawan Landry.

“I think sometimes our corners were stressed more than what they should be,” Jaguars GM Gene Smith said.

Preventing points all together was a problem as this team ranked 27th in scoring defense at 26.2 points a game.

The linebacker spot is almost as weak as safety and the Jags filled one of those starting positions by signing former Bill Paul Posluszny. He finished third in the league with 151 total tackles last season despite missing two games.

Offensively, the problem is inconsistency. Garrard has games where he looks like a slower version of Michael Vick and then has games where he looks like JaMarcus Russell. As soon as Garrard has a two-pick, two-fumble outing, the media and fans will be clamoring for Gabbert.

Another offensive aspect to keep an eye on early is the health of Maurice Jones-Drew. The human bowling ball missed the final two games last year and was questionable multiple weeks with ankle and abdominal injuries. He had offseason knee surgery.

One report suggested that the team plans on limiting Jones-Drew's workload in 2011, but offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said that wouldn’t be the case. Despite MJD’s smallish frame (5-foot-7), the Jaguars have run the ball up the middle more than any other team in the league since he became the starter.

Turnovers prevent this team from being consistent. It was second-to-last in the AFC last season with a -15 turnover margin. In a division like the AFC South where points-per-possession is a key stat, Jacksonville can’t get away with being Jekyll and Hyde.

The Jags face the third-toughest schedule in the NFL this season. Oddsmakers have given them a regular season win total of 6.5 with a -125 juice attached to the under. The team’s NFL football odds to win Super Bowl XLVI are +4500 and the conference +2500. Jacksonville is picked to finish third in the division behind Indianapolis and Houston with odds of +450.
