NFL Betting Online: Coming off a division title in 2009, the Bengals took a big step backwards last season as they finished last in the AFC North with a 4-12 record (7-9 ATS).

Cincinnati hasn’t done anything personnel-wise to improve on that porous mark, yet its odds to win the Super Bowl have dropped significantly since first opening last February. The Las Vegas Sports Consultants group said it opened the NFL betting lines odds at +10000 but have adjusted that price to +6500 since.

“This was a move based on the action. I think they definitely finish towards the bottom of the division and will likely finish last,” Andrew Patterson of the LVSC said.

Two Vegas oddsmakers said they moved the Bengals’ regular season win total down a full game (7.5 to 6.5) since opening, and people are still betting on the under. BookMaker didn’t even offer one of those numbers, sending out a sharper, 5.5-game win total for Cincy.

The Bengals NFL lines spread in Week 1 at Cleveland surfaced at 2.5 but most shops are currently offering 4.5. You know this is viewed as a terrible team when the public is pounding the Browns.

Carson Palmer had an awful year in 2010 with 26 touchdowns against 20 interceptions. He didn’t have much help as the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin (Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens) were more concerned about producing a talk show than performing on the field.

Now, Palmer wants nothing to do with the Bengals organization. He isn’t in camp and has held firm on his guarantee that if the team doesn’t trade him he will retire.

So with the overrated USC quarterback on the cusp of retirement, Bruce Gradkowski was brought in to compete for the starting job. But early camp reports indicate rookie Andy Dalton is getting most of the first-team snaps and is expected to start in Week 1.

Starting a rookie out of the gate has never been an ingredient of a winning recipe. And to compound matters, it’s not like Dalton has a wealth of talent surrounding him offensively. The team’s best player on that side of the ball might be Cedric Benson, and that’s a scary thought.

Cincinnati’s defense in 2010 got off to a rough start but played better down the stretch. That unit will be without starting cornerback Jonathan Joseph after he was scooped by Houston during free agency.

This is clearly going to be a rebuilding year for the Bengals. They are picked to finish last in the division with NFL betting lines of +2500 (the Browns are at +1000). Cincinnati has been given a +15000 shot to win Super Bowl XLVI at BookMaker and a +7500 price to win the AFC.
