NFL Betting Online: Another season under the tutelage of head coach John Harbaugh, and another playoff appearance for the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens finished their 2010 campaign with a 12-4 record but placed second in the AFC North because of a seeding tiebreaker in which Pittsburgh held the advantage. They went 8-7-1 against the spread and posted a 7-9 NFL online odds over/under mark.
With a minimum of nine wins in each of the last three years, Baltimore has been given a 2011 regular season win total of 10.5 at BookMaker with the juice weighted toward the under at -125. Some Las Vegas sportsbooks hung the Ravens with an 11-game win total.
The biggest question coming into 2011 is how the offense will operate. After the running game failed to produce results in the early stages of last year, Baltimore essentially took a pass-first approach to the gameplan.
Even with Anquan Boldin added to the receiving corps, the Ravens aerial attack also struggled to take flight. Joe Flacco is a quality signal caller in the NFL, but the offense must discover its identity in order for him to reach his full potential.
And we expect it will trend back toward a power-running game. Ray Rice leads a stable of backs that now includes Ricky Williams instead of Willis McGahee. The team gobbled up the best blocker in the league when it signed fullback Vonta Leach.
The defense isn’t getting any younger with guys like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs, but it remains a superior unit. That group ranked third in scoring defense last season at 16.9 points per game. They started out slow because of injuries, but over the last nine games the Ravens allowed a scant average of 15.7 points an outing.
Baltimore signed veteran safety Bernard Pollard during free agency and he will provide depth in a secondary that seems to be perennially hampered by injuries.
In our opinion, the Ravens are flying under the radar at the NFL odds betting counter. Harbaugh is an incredible coach and knows that the window for him to win with this aging group is closing fast. Baltimore has the league’s second-easiest schedule so it should be able to match or eclipse an 11-win total.
The Ravens have been labeled with +1400 NFL online odds to win the Super Bowl and +800 favorites to capture the conference. And even though they finished second to Pittsburgh in the division last season, they hold the lowest price to win the North at -160.
