Mixed Martial Arts Betting Odds: If you're looking to gamble on mixed martial arts, BookMaker is only online sportsbook that can quench your betting appetite. BookMaker is where the line originates so cash in on the best live MMA odds today! Strikeforce 40 World Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10 p.m. ET at HP Pavilion in San Jose. The fight will be televised live on Showtime.
The Strikeforce mixed martial arts circuit looks like it will terminate at the location it started at more than six years ago.
Strikeforce 40, also called the Strikeforce World Grand Prix, is scheduled to go down at HP Pavilion in San Jose on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Strikeforce held its inaugural mixed martial arts event there in March of 2006. BookMaker has MMA odds for this year's fight card that will be televised live on Showtime.
The eight-man heavyweight tournament is headlined by a bout between Daniel Cormier and Josh Barnett. It's not a featured fight between Alistair Overeem and Fedor Emelianenko that many MMA fans were hoping for, but one you can gamble on nonetheless.
Strikeforce is dissolving its heavyweight division going forward and industry scuttlebutt suggests that Strikeforce will be absolved by UFC at season's end. It's been a good run, but Strikeforce simply can't compete with Ultimate Fighting Championship from a draw perspective.
Cormier took Overeem's spot on the tournament trail and knocked out Antonio Silva in the first round of Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov to advance to this position.
The undefeated Cormier (9-0) broke his hand in the victory, which delayed the scheduling of this event. The 33-year-old American has a 71-inch reach and is known as a polished wrestler. Cormier wants to be enshrined in the MMA record books as the last Strikeforce heavyweight champion.
"I've really got to take care of business. I'm training like a mad man, because I know what's at stake," he said. "I know that this is a chance for me to fight on the biggest stage and really put a stamp on what I'm doing."
Josh Barnett (31-5) will stand in Cormier's way after taking out Sergei Kharitonov via submission in the first round of September's Strikeforce edition. Barnett is a solid wrestler but he also has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Baby-Face Assassin also has a seven-inch reach and a four-inch height advantage over Cormier.
Oddsmakers at BookMaker have Barnett listed as a -130 MMA odds favorite in this final Strikeforce heavyweight fight. The underdog Cormier has a +100 price so the books don't see much of a difference between the two. We think this is a steal of a bet for Barnett at Strikeforce 40 World Grand Prix and he should come away with a victory.
The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament, which started well over a year ago and lost Alistair Overeem somewhere along the way, will finally wrap things up TONIGHT (Sat., May 19, 2012) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., live via the Showtime network.
Set to headline the card are tournament finalists Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier, who will compete for the grand prix championship and the right to challenge one more fighter under the Strikeforce banner before the promotion eliminates the 265-pound division for good.
Also getting their hands dirty (again) are Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson for "El Nino's" 155-pound belt. Their upcoming rubber match will settle a longstanding feud that began nearly four years ago.
