Grand Tour Betting
The Grand Tour is the comprehensive title given to the three most important European long distance cycle races, the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Tour of Spain. Two of the three Grand Tour events, the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, as well as the World Cycling Championship make up the Triple Crown of Cycling – the most difficult and prestigious title achievable in professional bicycle racing.
Tour de France Betting
The Tour de France is the most recognisable name in world cycling. The Tour is raced over twenty stages, through spectacular scenery and Alps Mountain passes, adding up to a total distance between 3,000 to 4,000 km. There are smaller titles competed for within the race with the holders being awarded a specific jersey. Examples of Tour de France jerseys include: The Yellow Jersey (overall time leader), Green Jersey (points leader), Polka Dot Jersey (King of the Mountains) and the White Jersey (best performing rider under 25). The Giro d'Italia Betting
As part of the Grand Tour, the Giro d'Italia, also commonly known as the Giro, is one of the major stage races in professional cycling. The race is held annually in May/June over a distance of around 3,500 km. The race format is basically identical to the Tour de France. Russian Cyclist Denis Menchov (Rabobank team) rode to victory in 2009, while Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi and Eddy Merckx hold the record for the most race wins at five each.
Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain) Betting
Held in Spain each September, the Vuelta a España is ranked alongside the Tour de France and the Giro in terms of cycling prestige and importance. It is a 20 stage race. Unique to the event, the overall leader wears a Golden Jersey compared to the Yellow Jersey awarded in the other two Grand Tour races. Alejandro Valverde won the 2009 Vuelta. Tony Rominger and Roberto Heras have both won the Tour three times. This year's tour is due to start on 28th August in Seville and conclude in Madrid on 19th September.
